Jamshedpur gets its name from its founder, Late Sri Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata. It all started when in the year 1904, when Jamshedji Tata had a vision of building India’s first steel plant. And he envisioned for a city that could provide for all the comforts and conveniences to the workers of the steel plant as well as other residents. His search for an appropriate site, rich in iron, steel, coal, and limestone eventually took him to the village of Sakchi. Jamshedpur History

Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata

When you take a look into the history of industrial city of Jamshedpur, the first name that pops up in your mind is that of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. A firm believer in industrial revolution, Jamsetji wanted to build a steel plant in India and was in search of a land.
