WOW! Momo: About

WOW! Momo’s is a pan-Indian chain of fast-food restaurants that was first started in 2008 by two college students and friends Sagar Daryani and Binod Homagai. As years passed, the brand’s popularity grew and today they have over 300 outlets across 7 cities in India. In Pune, they have 12 outlets spread throughout the city.

Packaging:

I ordered from the Kothrud outlet which is located in the Karishma complex lane. They are exclusively available on Swiggy and Zomato delivery apps only. The delivery was prompt and the packaging was good. Momos were served in food-grade paper boxes and dipping sauces were in small plastic containers. There was no spillage and the momos travelled well without any breakage.

As the name suggests, WOW! Momo serves a range of momos along with some additional dishes which are recent additions. You can pick the momos and choose a cooking style steamed, pan-fried, deep fried or chilli momos (pan-fried with onions, chilli and sauce). So we ordered steamed chicken Darjeeling momo, fried chicken momo and paneer tandoori momo from the momo options. The deep-fried classic chicken momos were quite good. The filling was tasty and they had been fried right. I was most sceptical about the paneer tandoori momo, but this one turned out to be very enjoyable. The momos were grilled, topped with a tandoor masala along with grilled onions and peppers and served with red and green chutneys. The steamed chicken Darjeeling momos were howmomos should be. The filling was different from the classic and was very flavourful. Along with the momos, we also got the chicken cheese moburg (momo + burger) and the veg thukpa. The moburg sounded interesting but was quite disappointing. Sadly it was just two fried chicken and cheese-filled momos between burger buns slathered with mayo and the momo chutneys. I was expecting some veggies, but there were none and the burger was overpowered by mayonnaise. We had to scrape it off the buns to get the taste ofthe fried momos inside. The veg thukpa lacked the intensity and flavour which is a thukpa signature.

Plus & Minus:

After ordering a few times from WOW! Momo, I have realized that the momos are the best and safest thing to order from the menu. The momos are always the most enjoyable be they steamed, fried or grilled. The moburg and the thukpa were a total miss for us this time.
