In less than two years of their opening, this unobtrusively located café has gained popularity for the speciality coffees they offer, and the quality nosh they dish out. Victoria’s Boutique Café is a snug little place, its walls clad in brick and stone, with faux windows, and a vertical garden at the entrance; their distressed wood furniture can seat roughly 20 people. Several visits over the past year have introduced me to their coolers and coffee, including the Espresso Tonic. The jury is still out on that one, by the way, as some of us still prefer our tonics with a certain juniper-infused spirit. The food menu is made up of a robust selection of salads, appetizers, tartines, pizzas, pastas, sandwiches and desserts.
Victoria’s Boutique Cafe, Sector 8, Chandigarh: Food
A long pending catch-up with friends ended up as an unhurried lunch at Victoria’s recently. Our meal began with a Veggie Overload Salad and lime sodas, followed by a Muhammara Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and a Spinach and Sundried Tomato Pizza. Since they were flat out of our preferred dessert, we ended our meal with their Brownie with Ice Cream, washed down with Long Black Coffees.
Plus & Minus:
The salad was visibly a veggie overload when it arrived–roasted zucchini, peppers, broccoli, and iceberg, on a bed of quinoa, and drizzled with a light French dressing. The refreshing heap was devoured within minutes, it was positively refreshing. Next up was the sandwich, which also turned out delicious, perfectly grilled chicken with a lingering sweetness of roasted peppers in a freshly baked multigrain loaf, fresh iceberg providing the crunch in every bite. The portion size, with a side of fries, is huge and can easily be shared by two. The pizza didn’t disappoint either; it was a thin crust, came in a pan, with a generous use of toppings and cheese, including a smattering of mild feta. The brownie, on the other hand, was anything but; more like a wedge of dry chocolate cake, minus the gooey chewiness, with a scoop of vanilla.
