Threesixtyone Degrees, Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon: Decor

Brightly lit, thanks to the wall that runs the entire length of this all-day diner made entirely of glass, the better to gaze at the cerulean water body outside, no matter what time you visit this welcoming all-day diner. You can visit for its breakfast buffet, à la carte lunch, afternoon tea, evening aperitif at the bar, or dinner. You can have ten different meals here and never repeat a cuisine. The best part is that all are cooked to a high degree of authenticity, including the Goan fish curry, most surprisingly. There are a few vegan offerings too, on this menu. The first iteration, a couple of months ago, was a full vegan menu in addition to the regular menu. The enthusiastic response has made the kitchen vow to augment the original items. The day of our visit coincided with the tail end of the white truffle promotion. Already, plans are afoot for the next promotion. That’s what makes Threesixtyone such a treat: at any given time, you will be confronted with a temporary menu that will be a complete surprise.

Threesixtyone Degrees, Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon: Food

The highlight of the meal was tandoori king mushrooms (₹1250). You can, as long as stocks last, ask for a portion of truffles to be shaved over the mushrooms. The mushrooms were lightly cooked in the tandoor,so that the char was minimal and the flavour of the truffles (5 grams per portion at ₹825 per gram) dominated. My own wild mushroom risotto (₹1875) was given the truffle treatment, the truffles themselves being from Alba, famous for white truffles. King mushroom confit with wild mushroom tea (₹1250) was the genius dish of the meal. Mushroom stems were shredded into ‘noodles’ and a ‘tea’ of wild mushroom stock poured over it. It is for this reason why the vegan menu has done so well: many of the dishes have been painstakingly put together and not only bring a new dimension of taste but of presentation and flavour as well. The other dishes of the meal included a deeply delicious stir-fried fish with pickled mustard greens that looked pale but was packed with flavour and had a hint of sourness in its depths.

Plus & Minus:

Even the breads that are served gratis in this all-day diner are a gastronomic treat.
