The Waterfall Lounge, Kalyani Nagar, Pune: Profile

The Waterfall Lounge is a newly renamed and revamped tea and coffee lounge located at the lobby level of Hyatt Pune.

Decor:

Hyatt Pune’s spacious lobby with a high ceiling is the perfect setting for a tea and coffee lounge. The Waterfall Lounge is housed at the lobby level and overlooks the entrance porch and the water fountains through a tall glass window. The window also provides natural light to the whole space. The seating is comfortable with sofas and a mix of accent and wooden chairs. The serving counter is decorated elegantly with desserts and other savouries displayed in glass cloches.

Food:

The menu is short, but it does offer some great options perfect for a tea and coffee lounge. They have a wide selection of teas and freshly brewed coffees from different coffee brands Lavazza, Blue Tokai, Starbucks and Tim Hortons. While it is an all-day lounge, the best time to visit would be for hi-tea or a sumptuous evening snack. We started with Puneri shikanji, a sweet and refreshing lemon juice perfect for the summer. They have a signature hi-tea menu which is set up on a two-tier Charlie stand, reminiscent of a typical British hi-tea. Aptly named Waterfall Signature Charlie, they have vegetarian and non-vegetarian variants comprising savouries and petit desserts. The signature Charlies were served on a beautiful black ceramic charlie stand. The savouries included harissa spiced chicken crostini, smoked duck crostini with fig chutney, smoked chicken quiche for the non-vegetarian version and avocado and goat cheese toast, compressed melon and feta cheese toast and asparagus quiche for the vegetarian version. Each of the savoury offerings was delicious. The avocado and goat cheese toast, the asparagus quiche and the smoked duck crostini were our personal favourites. We asked for separate portions of these individually and they happily obliged. The desserts included red velvet gateaux, hazelnut chocolate pastry, baked cheesecake and a fresh mango tart. The fresh mango tart was probably the best thing we had that evening. A crumbly tart base filled with mango cream and topped with large chunks of freshly cut Alphonso mangoes. With two pieces of each, the portion size was perfect and is enough for two people. Along with the signature charlies, we also tried the flaky and delicious chicken tikka khurcha puff and a tandoor smoked vegetable puff. We ended with a South Indian filter coffee in traditional brass dawara sets which was a nice touch.

Plus & Minus: The Waterfall Lounge

Savouries and petit desserts served on a charlie stand is something that only handpicked restaurants have on their menu. The signature Charlies here is definitely their USP. The wide selection of tea and coffee options and the moderate pricing is impressive. While the items served were great, the food menu can seem slightly limited. Some snack options like sandwiches, that are regular at coffee shops can be added to the menu.
