Thai House, Indiranagar, Bangalore: Decor
You could miss Thai House amid the neon boards and loud signage at this end of 100 Feet Road. That’s how unassuming it is. Here, it’s about the food alone and there are no other pretensions. This is a tiny dining room with the kitchen at the back. Don’t be fooled by the lack of frills, for a spectacularly good meal awaits.
Thai House, Indiranagar, Bangalore: Food
While pan-Asian eateries seem to be popping up everywhere, Thai House serves just one cuisine and how well it does that! I began with a Chicken Spicy Salad with Mint, the Larb Gai. It was perfect in every way – the meat still moist, the seasoning just right, the herbs fresh and a scattering of toasted rice adding crunch to every mouthful.
Then I had the Stir-Fried Beansprouts with Beef. Again, the meat was cooked to a delicious tenderness, the sprouts were crisp and the sauce was delicious. The flavour, the aromas, the texture all took me back to the street stalls of Bangkok and the many spicy delights eaten there.
I rounded off my meal with the less adventurous Green Curry with Seafood, and it was simply the best Thai curry I’ve had in a long time in the city. The texture of the gravy was silken and it had the slightest hint of sweetness. There were generous amounts of prawn and squid in it, besides vegetables. My companion and I ordered a second bowl of Sticky Rice to polish off the large, hearty bowl of curry. Thai House’s Pad Thai enjoys quite a reputation, too, regulars tell me.
My meal was deeply satisfying in a way only one cooked with the best ingredients and an assured hand can be. There are a 100-plus dishes on the menu and each one, I’m guessing, is a reason to dine at Thai House.
Service:
The waiters may not be the snappiest, but they do an efficient enough job.
Plus & Minus:
Thai House is the place to go for some superb, authentic cooking, with every dish bursting with aroma and flavour. There’s no alcohol here and I would have so loved an ice-cold beer to go with the spicy Larb Gai.

Thai House, the unpretentious little restaurant in Indiranagar, is without a doubt one of my favourite places to eat in. My last meal from here had been ordered in and I welcomed the opportunity to go to the restaurant after a long time. Everything is better when you eat here. There are some staples I keep returning to. One of them is the Thai Papaya Salad, with shredded papaya, tomatoes, long beans, fried peanuts and lots of fresh chilli. You can choose your spice levels, going up to 5. I ordered a 4 and it was super hot, but utterly delightful to the last nose-tingling, tear-inducing mouthful. The Tom Kha Prawn Soup is another must-have for me. The balance of hot, sour, salty and mild sweetness is perfect in this bowl of goodness, with the aroma of Thai herbs lending freshness.
The Fritter Prawns I ate were excellent, the seafood juicy and the coating crisp and tasty. This came with a pleasing dipping sauce with a pronounced sweetness. The Larb Gai, the spicy chicken salad, topped off here with fresh mint is also well done. For main course I had the Crispy Spicy Chicken Rice, a dish of well-marinated fried chicken with rice and a small salad on the side. The rice at Thai House used to be jasmine before. More recently, possibly a fallout of lock-downs and their impact on business, it’s become basmati. I do hope they’ll return to the aromatic, small grain rice again. Also, you could order some very good red meat dishes here and they’ve gone off the menu, too. Again, I hope they’ll make a comeback soon. The Green Thai Curry with Seafood is a dish I’ve enjoyed here in the past. It’s just the right consistency – not thickened to a gloop as in many Asian restaurants here – and the flavours are spot-on.
My dessert of choice at Thai House is the Mango with Sticky Rice. But it wasn’t the season for that and I settled for the Tub Tim Grob, here called the Chestnut Drink. The sweetened, red colored cubes of water chestnut swam in a large bowl of coconut milk with shavings of ice in it. It was a soothing end to this flavour burst of a meal.
