Shamiana enjoys an appealing location facing an open terrace with a view of the surroundings that boast some greenery. The restaurant is airy and well-lit, with a neat and streamlined layout of tables and comfortable sofa-type chairs and even settees for those who want to relax over their meal. Ornate chandeliers and light fittings lend the appropriate grandeur to this premium dining restaurant, while prints and photographs of Ahmedabad’s heritage buildings connect the property to the city it is located in.

Since this is an all-day dining restaurant, the menu is diverse ranging from sandwiches and wraps to main dishes. There is a good range of beverages, including some summery items like mint shooter, guava shooter and watermelon chia seeds.
The North Indian food here is pretty good. For starters, the gucchi kumbh ke shammi is a novelty here using morels and mushrooms to create a mock version of the meaty medallions. Tangdi is good for those who like chicken – it was well marinated and tender.
I enjoyed the gosht martaaban – the mutton was fork-tender and the gravy was delicious without being overpowering.The dal makhani is also excellent with the desired buttery texture and earthy taste. The paneer achari makhani blends the buttery and rich makhani gravy with the pickle masala flavor. They also do a good vegetarian biryani. The grilled prawns were also well-made and served on a bed of potato and avocado mash. The pastas are also fairly good.
The desserts here are also pretty good.The thandai cheese cake had the right blend of flavors and the crust below was also a firm base. The chocolate brownie was gooey above with a dense cake base. The Indian desserts like gulab jamun are also good.
The restaurant also serves some good snacks like pesto paneer wrap. You can order some nice plates of open-faced sandwiches with interesting toppings like palm heart, morels or artichokes (if you are okay with the strong smell of some of these ingredients, they are delicious).
