Social comes to mind when hanging out or shaking a leg, nursing drinks or munching tidbits takes precedence over leisurely meals. A trendy chain best defined by quirky yet purposeful decor and which, much to the delight of guzzlers, decided to open its first-ever brewery here, in Chandigarh. The ‘taaza beer’–as the fresh brews are called–includes Hefner, a light-bodied German, and Scotch Ale, a strong brew that combines hops with pale ale malt. Their signature cocktails, especially the boastful Longest Long Island Iced Tea (L.L.I.I.T.), are just as popular.
Sector 7 Social, Chandigarh: Food
The food is delightfully eclectic with the menu peppered with modern Indian, Mediterranean, and Asian nosh. Apart from their Thalis, Boxes, and Substantials, which are wholesome sections, expect mostly bar-food to nibble on; quick bites, combos, and platters that go best with several rounds of spirits. Ladi Paos, Rolls, and Bad Ass Burgers deserve a special mention, especially the Anda Shammi Pao and Guacamole and Black Bean Burger. Alongside preferences of the day, I’d taken to ordering the Death Wings purely out of a sense of fun. So as to claim the lemonade promised to ‘those who survive the whole damn thing’. I did, each time. But having curbed my outings since, the last time I felt like Social-ising, I ordered in a Shawarma Yo Mama and the Charred Malai Broccoli & Charcoal Corn Pizza.
Plus & Minus:
The order arrived warm and well within the aggregator’s promised time, in Social’s trademark packaging. The deconstructed Shawarma was in a sectioned box with a see-through cover, while the pizza was in the usual. My eagerness to get to the food however was frustratingly hampered by the endless cellophane tape that held the two boxes together. By the end of it, the pizza required reheating; and though a tad ungenerous in topping, it turned out tasty. The shawarma saved the day single-handedly–its ingredients were fresh, flavorful, and their crunch and texture still in place.
