Satguru’s Punjabi Rasoi is a chain of North Indian restaurants in Pune. They have five outlets in the city, each immensely popular and always buzzing with patrons who love their Punjabi food and the dhaba style ambience. This week,I visited their small outlet in Hadapsar.
Satguru’s Punjabi Rasoi, Hadapsar, Pune: Decor
Compared to the outlets in Nigdi and Ravet, this Magarpatta outlet is comparatively small. It is located in the bustling Destination Centre, a commercial space inside Magarpatta City. The seating is comfortable and practical. The walls are embellished with wall art, posters, quotes etc. which have a Punjabi theme. The decor is quite simple. We visited during lunchtime and the place was packed. So clearly people come here for the food and particularly not the decor.
Satguru’s Punjabi Rasoi, Hadapsar, Pune: Food
As the name suggests, the menu is primarily Punjabi with some Oriental dishes. We started with a mandatory round of the masala papad and a few glasses of the refreshing masala chhaas. While my eyes were set on the appetizers, out of sheer greed,I ordered for an aloo onion paratha which was absolutely delicious. It was cooked on the tawa with oodles of butter and was served with mango pickle, dahi and green chutney. From the starters we tried the achari chaap and paneer tikka. The paneer tikka was great, the chaap was slightly dry. The chicken banjara kebabs were delicious and cooked perfectly. The chicken was tender and succulent and it was topped with some cheese and served with masala onions. We accompanied the appetizers with a glass sweet lassi. We wanted to try their signature dish murgh musallam, but with just the two of us,finishing the 12 pieces would have been impossible. We settled for their other speciality, butter chicken, which was very good. It was creamy with a bit of smokey flavour and mildly sweet. Along with this we also tried the mushroom masala and dal makhani. The mushroom masala was really tasty and the always dependable dal makhani was excellent. The portion size was generous and one dish can be shared easily among 3-4 people. We paired our curries with a mix of butter roti, phulkas and missi roti. The menu does not have many sweet options. We tried the delicious and freshly made gulab jamuns which were made from real khoya and fried in desi ghee.
Plus & Minus:
While the food was very good,it was not exceptionally great. Nonetheless, the generous portions, tasty food and strategic location makes Satguru’s Punjabi Rasoi absolutely VFM. No wonder people keep coming back and keep ordering repeatedly. With new outlets added, keeping the consistency in terms of food taste and quality will definitely be a challenge.
