Rojo Tomate, Sector 10, Chandigarh: Revisited [20/01/2023]

An ol’ favourite by now, I find myself tucking into the woodfired pizzas at Rojo Tomate unfailingly every couple of months or so. This snug, no-fuss pizzeria with seating on two levels, depending on point of entry, has kept its focus wholly on providing customers a qualitative food experience. It is no surprise that the menu is limited, and does justice to every one of the items listed–pizzas, a small selection of pastas and garlic breads, soups and salad, with a couple of desserts. An equally limited number of coolers, shakes, fresh juices, tea and coffee make up the beverages section.

Food:

I caught up with a friend here lately and, like always, contemplated a salad or pasta before returning to the pizza options. For the most part because I’d rather just eat another slice (or two) instead of filling up on other dishes, which by the way, are tasty enough but not the main attraction for me. I’m also partial to Rojo Tomate’s cheesy garlic breads, the one with sundried tomatoes and sautéed mushrooms, and anotherwith smoked chicken and crispy bacon. This visit we ordered a large combo: one half Rocket Salad Pizza, the other halfFamous No 7, followed by Lava Di Volcano and coffee.

Plus & Minus:

The team here is amiable and helpful and service generally good. The pizza was exceptional and both halves were absolutely delicious. The thin crust was lightly charred and generously topped with the freshest of ingredients over a tasty home-made tomato sauce–green olives, red peppers, mushrooms, mozzarella and grated parmesan on one side, and cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, rocket leaves, mozzarella and parmesan shavings on the other. This delightful mélange of flavours and textures is such a treat for the taste-buds, as is the dark chocolate dessert with its molten centre, fruity compote and mint sprigs.
