Protein Rush, Chembur, Mumbai: Decor
Seriously small, boxed-in space. Seats maybe 14 or 16 diners. An equally tiny open kitchen and a shelf with ready-to-eat packets, tangy tomato chick peas and more.
Protein Rush, Chembur, Mumbai: Food
What’s common between pizzas, toasties, soups, salads, Lebanese, Indonesian and an all-day breakfast menu (oats and pancakes) is that they are all high in protein and made in olive oil. Also, free of maida, MSG, preservatives and sugar.
Vegetarians, ask for the ‘Black Rice Pot Rice’, delicious with paneer and exotic vegetables. The black rice has a tasty bite to it and double the amount of protein and fibre and antioxidants than brown rice, informed the owner, Akshay Sandhu, who is always present at the cafe.
Chicken summer salad orange dressing is a delightful refreshing meal. Ask for the ‘Gado Gado Salad’ with peanut butter dressing. From the all-day breakfast menu, go for the tasty overnight oats. A unique dessert, ‘Pineapple Overnight’ was sparkled with oats with chia seeds. Available in many flavors.
Minus Point:
The tiny space can get cramped when packed. Service is slow. Green omelette stuffed with spinach and feta cheese could do with more punch, but its accompaniment of sweet potato chaat (beetroot option) was delicious. While ‘Desi Chicken Pizza’, rich with 100 grams of protein (base made of pulses and soya protein), is layered with pesto and pav bhaji masala, it was too bland considering it’s a “desi” chicken pizza. As Raj points out, more vegetarian options are needed.
My Point:
The restaurant is devoted to more than your pleasure. It is watching over your well-being. It ensures that its dishes are protein-packed and preservative, maida and sugar-free. Generously portioned. Some need to be fine-tuned for flavor.
This eatery is open through the day and it’s a perfect place to get a high protein snack. Go if you’re into fitness. Don’t go if you’re looking for a rich, masala-laden meal or a gourmet one. The name flexes its muscles and says it all – ‘Protein Rush’.
