Prashadam Sweets & Restaurant Manimajra, Chandigarh: Overview
Here’s another neighbourhood eatery that has slowly marked its presence as a place for mithais, namkeens, and vegetarian snacks. Their multi-cuisine menu lists several North Indian, South Indian, and Indian-Chinese options, along with a handful of pastas, pizzas, and grilled sandwiches. They also offer some tandoori options, kathi rolls, a whole lot of chaat items and desserts like crispy jalebis, hot gulab jamuns, seasonal halwas, and rabri. Prashadam’s takeaway section is made up of popular combos that can be enjoyed in the comfort of your home; think Amritsari Kulcha with Chole, Dal Makhani with Butter Naan, Special Thalis, and Tandoori Platters. Sundays are made special with a Poori combo comprising channas, aloo sabzi, petha sabzi, and suji halwa.
Food:
I’ve been snacking on their South Indian goodies since a year, and have swung by for their Ras Malai, Malpua Rabri, or Kulfi Faluda every once in a while. Last month I ordered home some North Indian specialities, and more recently gave their dhokla and chaats my undivided attention.
Plus and minus:
Prashadam wears an unassuming air on the outside but the moment you step in, you are struck by its spacious and spotless surrounds. The staff is friendly, and service is quick if you’re there for their mithai and snacks. The wait for meals, and tandoori items, is expectedly longer. Regardless of doorstep delivery or dining in, I have found their portions to be substantial and the quality of food has by and large been consistent. I would, however, pick the dine-in option for their meals instead of ordering home. Especially the Sunday Special, which I only lately chanced upon, and which has left a lingering impression. Hope it lasts!
