The food is not quite like anything you will have encountered before. In this day of insistence on provenance and authenticity, there is intentionally nothing authentic about the majority of the dishes on this menu, which meanders from North to South. To put it another way, Hyderabadi Haleem Pot is a recreation of the salient features of Haleem. Hence, if it is supposed to be velvety with a hint of aromatic spices, the PotPot team will have made sure that the texture is extremely velvety and the aromatics are more pronounced than the norm. Fish curry rice, to take another example, will remind you of a Goan fish curry in one mouthful, but a Kerala curry in the next instance. (Original ingredients are mixed and matched for some of the recipes, with rather novel results.) At one level, it is quite intriguing, and may even become the new trajectory of Indian food: developed in a commercial kitchen rather than an insistence on age-old authenticity.

Pot Pot: Food

Masala Fish Potallam (₹585) was a pleasant starter – steamed whole fish with a spice rub that could well have been inspired by coastal Andhra Pradesh. Even better was Palak Potta Chaat (₹285) that was delivered in a knocked-down condition that you had to assemble just before serving it for optimum texture. Even the kakorikebabs (₹585 for 2 pieces) not only reached us in perfect condition, but they also had a hint of smokiness and trademark spicing. Prawn Curry Rice (₹685) had clearly been tailored to Delhi’s famed palate! Something of a cross between a moileefrom Kerala and malaikari,it had too little tartness and too much butteriness.

Pot Pot: Yum Yum Indian Delivery: Plus & Minus

The menu, disconcertingly, does not indicate which preparations are true to the original and which have been developed in the Pot Pot kitchen. The website is meant for ordering from – not for simply browsing to decide. The result is that it is a challenge to remember which dish you had ordered last time or which one you had not liked. The plus point is the packaging – quite the most attractive and practical of any home delivery brand. Also, if the price seems high for the portion size, it is partially offset by the plethora of condiments they offer.
