Pondy Parottas, Hitech City, Hyderabad: Decor
The restaurant’s interiors are well done and inviting. The use of bold colors, a rowing boat with oars attached to the roof and hand-woven bamboo basket lampshades are not only innovative but also eco-friendly. The star attraction of the decor is the city map of Pondicherry made with recycled printed circuit boards hung on one of the walls. The restaurant has limited but comfortable seating and the subtle lighting and music add up to the whole ambience.
Pondy Parottas, Hitech City, Hyderabad: Food
The restaurant’s expansive menu offers a wide range of cuisines from Pondicherry, Chettinad, Sri Lanka, China and Arabia. But it’s the South Indian fare that is the big draw among its patrons. We began by ordering the chicken pepper fry from the smoking tawa. The dish was nice, peppery and had a hint of smoky aroma to it. Next was the Tamil Nadu chicken 65 that was deep-fried marinate chicken with crunchy texture and subtle flavor. Many might not know but food historians opine that the dish was originally invented in Chennai and the restaurant’s version is unlike anything you get elsewhere.
Their parottas are very popular and have ample options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. While vegetarians can opt for the veg chilly parotta and paneer Ceylone parotta, among others, the non-vegetarians can go for chicken, mutton or prawn varieties. Their Pondy Beach Road menu has specially-crafted combos that includes gravies with rice or dosa. They also serve the Ambur chicken biryani from the kitchens of the Nawabs of Arcot. This flavorful biryani made with jeera samba rice, has a nice texture, aroma and is definitely worth a try.
Apart from these items, the Tamil Nadu fish kuzhambu too is a hit among foodies. The restaurant also offers a wide range of dosas and combos and all the items are reasonably priced.
