Piatto Dessert Studio, Kalyani Nagar, Pune: Decor

As this is a dessert studio, you will be welcomed by a large glass display where all the desserts are displayed beautifully. This display spot along with some serving counters and the gelato display is right in the center. The space is beautifully decorated with wall art depicting plates and cutlery. The seating is comfortable and the many hanging lamps which run through the space add to the chic ambience.

Piatto Dessert Studio, Kalyani Nagar, Pune: Food

As the name suggests, Piatto is primarily a dessert studio. So we definitely wanted to try their whole range of desserts and were planning to manage our appetites accordingly. But one glance at the newly launched all day breakfast menu and we were tempted to order sandwiches and the wide range of egg preparations.

We started with two stellar sandwiches served with whole wheat bread which is baked in-house. The roast chicken sandwich was stuffed with chicken, lettuce, caramelized onions, jalapenos and curry flavored yogurt and the roasted veggies sandwich had roasted pumpkins and bell peppers, jalapenos, salsa verde and feta cheese. It was a tough choice to select only one thing from the breakfast menu. Our choice of eggs benedict served with spicy pulled pork and a French toast was probably the best on the food menu. The runny yolk from the poached eggs oozed perfectly over the toast and pork. The beautifully made hollandaise sauce completed the dish and made it absolutely perfect.

All these savoury dishes were a palate cleanser for the sweet goodness which was going to hit us! We decided to try everything which was on display. The thing that sets the desserts apart from other places is that here the desserts are mousse based. The classic opera looked and tasted perfect with coffee mousse, almond sponge and a dark chocolate cremeux. The raspberry chocolate had a surprise gooey liquid raspberry center inside a milk chocolate mousse. The chocolate chip cookie at the base provided the crunchy element to the dish. The lemon tart with soft meringue and the salted caramel chocolate tart topped with caramel popcorn were the two tarts we ordered and both were delicious. The tropical verrine is inspired by chef Darren Purchese’s sweet studio in Australia – Burch and Purchese. It was a beautiful mix of mango and passion fruit curd, coconut caviar and salted oats crumb.

The top picks for macarons were the snickers and sea-salt caramel among the classic tastes and the chaat and paan macarons among the Indian themed ones. Another great addition to their menu is the vast range of gelatos which are made in house using all natural material and without pre mixes. Smaran was gracious and offer tasters for all the gelato flavors. Though each and every flavor is worth mentioning, our favorites were the filter coffee and solkadhi. The solkadhi flavor was spot-on and never had I imagined that there would ever be a solkadhi flavored gelato. What a winner!
