Sandwiches Paris Panini began life as a food truck operated by Nicolas Grossemy, who wished to bring French street fare to Bengaluru. The French chef then teamed up with with AB and Nikhil Gupta, who run the popular Pizza Bakery chain, and the brand found a space on pricey 12th Main in Indiranagar.
I had eaten at Paris Panini when it first opened and was utterly impressed with the panini here – from bread to fillings and condiments – and especially the hand-cut fries. I was somewhat concerned when Paris Panini opened branches for dining in and cloud kitchens for delivery. I’ve seen time and again that scaling up often means a dilution in quality. That, happily, has not been the case with this sandwich store. I stopped here A French street food favourite Bengaluru Panini & Sides &for a quick bite a couple of weeks ago and found everything as good as I remembered it to be. My companion had the Arthur (255 for half), which had pork sausage, feta, sliced onion and mustard aioli, with some jalapeno giving it a spicy kick. You can also make a meal of your panini,
adding on a side. I had the Jean with a filling of bacon, feta and fried onions, plus Classic Salted Fries (150). The bread was fresh, toasted just right and the filling – good quality bacon, crisp lettuce and creamy cheese – was generous. Even the half sandwich was a hearty portion and completely satiating. The fries came with a zesty tomato sauce. All the Paris Panini sauces and condiments are made in-house and you have to appreciate the effort. In fact, they’ve added on a retail range that includes French Old Style Mustard and a Chunky Chilli relish. We shared a nicely made Cold Coffee (190) and had no room for desserts. I shall go back another time for the Caramel Crème Cup, a luscious dip served with crisp vanilla biscuits. Paris Panini also does crepes with toppings like salted caramel and nutella. Paninis are now also delivered from cloud kitchens across the city. I do think, though, that this hit-the-spot sandwich tastes best when eaten soon after it’s assembled. That’s also the case with the fries.
