Lavonne Cafe, Indiranagar, Bengaluru: About
When a restaurant – or cafe – is top of the mind for a particular mood or moment it’s doing something or several things right. I had to pick a place for a working brunch and Lavonne Cafe in Indiranagar was an easy choice. The space has a cheerful vibe to it. The menu is compact. The coffee is very good and the service is quick and efficient.
To start with, we had freshly squeezed orange juice (200) and Soft Scrambled Eggs Topped with Parmesan and Cracked Black Pepper (360) on fat slices of sourdough toast. Scrambled eggs are simple, deceptively so; few kitchens get it just right. Lavonne Cafe does.
Having wrapped up work, we were ready to reward ourselves with more food. We shared a portion of the Grilled Chicken with Charred Pineapple Salad (420). It was a generous serving with fresh greens and tasty chicken with the fruit adding touches of sweetness. There were slices of toasted baguette on the side. I’ve always enjoyed the pasta at Lavonne Cafe, particularly the Browned Butter & Sage Fettuccini with Sliced Shiitake Mushrooms and Parmesan Breadcrumbs (440). This time, the pasta was slightly under-seasoned and that took away from an otherwise satisfying bowl. I do, however, love the buttery breadcrumbs perking it up.
You have to have dessert at Lavonne Cafe. The pastry display here is made up of intricately crafted confections like Banana Caramel Cheesecake and Exotic Tropical Cake, all of which look too good to eat. We settled instead for the excellent and very popular Chocolate Brownie with coffee. My friends had the Cortado (185) and I drank an Americano (160). Lavonne’s Almond Croissant with its sweet, nutty filling also pairs very nicely with the coffees here.
The consistent use of good ingredients with expertise is what puts Lavonne ahead of others. It’s a reassuring sign that quality continues to have value in a market clamoring for cheap and convenient.
