Kyma, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai: About

Lunch at BKC’s brand new, buzzing, stylish, casual ‘Kyma’. I enjoy the cool winter sunshine, the multiple food options as much as I do with the award winning actor Arjan Bajwa, who has acted in critically acclaimed films. He shares his fascinating life story with me.

How this son of the mayor of Delhi studied to be an architect, almost became a pilot (still flies as a hobby) and ended up making waves in Bollywood, Tollywood and continues to do so. We keep getting interrupted by his fans who request for his autographs and selfies. The down-to-earth, black belt in Taekwondo, well-built actor smilingly obliges. He’s a fan of Japanese food and sake, and yes, he enjoys the multiple options here! We will return.

Stylish And Pleasant Ambiance

A beautiful plant filled al fresco area, dotted with cabanas, a gazebo is perfect for this cool weather and COVID-safe, too. Natural wood and glass gleams in the stylish, high-ceilinged indoors. Plush couches, large bay windows and a fully stocked bar, too.

Kyma, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai: Hummus To Sushi

Bursting with flavour and texture, the salads delight. Be it the Mediterranean crunchy Fatoosh Salad or the tangy Thai Raw PaPaya Somtam Salad. Must-try are the chicken dishes of both cuisine, namely the Cantonese style Chilli Chicken and Joojeh Chicken. Also try the robustly spiced Chicken Sharwarma.

Many a unique dish here like the Spicy Dimsum Thai style plump with Chicken and Birds Eye Chilli. Equally unique is the Citrus Malta Orange Spiked and Harrisa Hummus. Try their freshly rolled sushi. They have plenty for vegetarians, too, like tasty Zataar Marinated Mushroom Soup, Veg Stuffed Pides and airy crunchy Tempura, Edamame and Burnt Garlic Blue Pea Fried Rice.

End with the masterpiece of creamy, crunchy and texture Baklava — crispy fillos topped with rose petal ice-cream. Kudos to Chefs Makarand Samant and Krishna Tiwari (Asian specialist).

Popular And Packed

We food critics go “ooh” and “aah” over innovative gastronomy, but bypass the eateries with mass appeal. Let’s pause to praise these, the ones which have their finger on the foodie pulse of the city. Like the chain of Shiv Sagar eateries. Founded by the lowprofile, Narayan Poojary and family. Keeping a finger on the foodie pulse of the city seems to be their hallmark. The second generation, 26-year-old Nikita Poojari’s Butterfly High, is equally popular even though serving global cuisine. And now from them and their managing partners (Dhawal Udeshi, Pawan Shahri and Nikhil Rochlani) is their newest Kyma. Once again, it’s approachable, it’s relevant and it serves the two most popular cuisines — Asian and Mediterranean. Casual. Open through the day, it rides on the latest wave (Kyma means wave in Greek) and sure lives up to its name.
