Honk – Pullman New Delhi Aerocity: Decor
The network of restaurants of our city never fails to amaze me: no matter what arrows Fate throws at them, they keep dodging them, the better to continue delighting our palates, as they have always done. Pullman Hotel in Aerocity has made a menu for each of its restaurants, that include all the dishes that travel well. The Honk section includes the dishes I enjoy at the atmospheric restaurant at the hotel, and the (specially sanitized) vehicle that came to deliver my order arrived at the exact time it promised. This hotel delivers within a 40 kilometre radius fortunately for me; most restaurants and food apps do not deliver to the area in which I live which is frustrating. And I am not a fan of the aggregators who chip away at the bottom-line of the restaurants they represent.
Honk – Pullman New Delhi Aerocity: Food
Twice cooked chicken puff with shimeji mushroom (₹ 850) is not only a great baked dimsum, it is indestructible in Delhi traffic – an important consideration while ordering food to be delivered home. I found that Unbox Deliciousness, the Pullman trademark for home delivery, has a rare degree of perfection and everything I ordered was delivered 30 kms away, in pristine condition.
Pan fried chicken dumpling with garlic chives (₹ 975) had an exceedingly thin wrapper that was not torn or soggy after its journey. The chives added a garlicky punch and we did not need the sauce that the hotel had sent with the order. Amazingly, even the lamb pot sticker (₹ 925) fried at the bottom, steamed at the top, managed to retain its pleasantly chewy (undamaged) wrapper and a tiny bit of juiciness as well. The highlight of our meal was Honk-style roasted chicken with pepper and spice salt (₹ 1650). The crisp, glossy skin was burnished to coppery tones, while inside, the meat was white and tender – even succulent. It seems to be the country cousin of Peking duck, as the style of cooking is very similar and the result is identical, except that we have more affinity with chicken than with duck. Our main course, Chengdu lamb (₹ 1200) was a glorious burst of chilli heat and tender sliced lamb.
Plus & Minus:
Caution prompted me to not order any prawn preparation or sushi in view of the heat plus possible delay owing to traffic.
