Fusion Kitchen, Kothrud, Pune: Decor
Located at the Solaris Club in Mayur Colony in Kothrud, Fusion Kitchen occupies the first floor that overlooks the tennis and basketball courts and the skating rink at the club. Throughout the space, there are numerous potted plants and hanging planters which create a relaxed ambience. Two trees have been kept intact while designing the space and they stand right at the centre. The seating is mostly wooden chairs which are comfortable. Pick tables overlooking the courts that offer great views of the club. The space is well decorated and the ambience created with all the natural elements is relaxed and comfortable. During summers, the space gets hot, but they manage well with large mist fans.
Fusion Kitchen, Kothrud, Pune: Food
The menu is a mix of north Indian, modern Indian and oriental. We decided to go desi this time. We started with two cracking kebabs the unique zucchini paneer tikka, lightly flavored paneer chunks wrapped in zucchini and grilled with capsicum and onion and the fragrant and flavourful lasooni chicken kebabs. I am always a bit skeptical when I see fusion food on the menu. For many, fusion just means adding grated cheese, mayo or liquid nitrogen while presenting. With red flags on full alert, we ordered the dabeli panini and pav bhaji sliders. The dabeli panini was served with potato wedges and was excellent. The taste and flavour was spot on. The pav bhaji sliders impressed too. The pav bhaaji taste was spot on and making them into sliders was unique. While there was cheese added, it was not excessive. So both these fusion dishes along with the zucchini paneer tikka turned out very good. For mains we kept it simple. The subz miloni, an array of vegetables cooked in onion and spinach gravy, was delicious. The murg rara, a chicken dish cooked with minced chicken in a slightly spicy, red gravy. The gravy was rightly spiced and the chicken was cooked perfectly. We paired the gravies with the thecha cheese naan and missi roti. A special mention of the thecha garlic naan which can easily be an appetizer by itself if served with some cooling dip. I am always happy when I see a long dessert section with lots of options to pick from. While I have previously tried and loved the pastries and other desserts here, this time we ordered the delicious dry fruits kulfi and gulab jamun with Ice-cream. Both great desserts and the right and cooling way to end our lunch.
Plus & Minus:
The food at Fusion Kitchen was very good. Almost all dishes we tried were done right. Even the fusion dishes were impressive. Unfortunately, prawns and mutton dishes were not available the day we visited so we had to stick to vegetarian and chicken dishes only, which was a bit of a downer. The staff was friendly and the service was prompt.
