Foxtrot Gastropub, Marathahalli, Bangalore: Decor
Who would have thought Marathahalli would become the bar-andrestaurant hub it is now. Several downtown brands have branches here and, more recently, there’s Foxtrot, described as a gastropub. Walk in and find yourself far removed from the landscape that Foxtrot occupies, dotted with tech parks, IT offices and cheap biryani eateries. Lit-up retro billboards, vintage chairs and offbeat wall art create the mood here. The washrooms make you smile with their pink flamingo-printed walls.
Foxtrot Gastropub, Marathahalli, Bangalore: Food
Foxtrot is both a buzzing watering hole and a restaurant, and much effort has gone into creating the bar menu, which abounds with signature cocktails. The much-hyped bar concoction here is the waggishly titled What a Matcha — whisky, matcha tea, ginger and citrus. This one went down nice and smooth. The other cocktails with names like Urban Decay and Cyberdog were much of a muchness.
To accompany my drinks, I started with some of the small plates. At first glance, the menu excites, with familiar dishes being given an unexpected tweak or served with unusual condiments. The Jerk Spiced Cottage Cheese, served with coriander pesto, was superlative — the paneer soft and creamy and well-infused with spice. I also asked for the Ram Ladoo, the street food favorite, which isn’t usually on restaurant menus. This had been given a cheesy twist and was utterly enjoyable. The Soya Keema Samosa is a hot-seller here, but the honey glaze it was coated with was a bit too sweet for my taste. The Curry Leaf Prawns, with a coconut emulsion, was flawless. For main course, I had a nicely-done Mutton Pepper Fry with Malabari Paratha. Other unlikely combinations include Beef Rendang Curry with Choorma Roti, and Fish Moilee with Kasundi Jhalmuri. This mix-and-match approach is a tricky route to take, but the chefs at Foxtrot nail it most of the time.
For dessert, I chose the retro Old School Banana Split over Jalebi Churros and Mango Basil Bhapa Doi and did not regret it one bit.

This is good spot if you’re looking for a night out in the ORR area. If you live in other parts, it’s a long haul and traffic is a nightmare.
