Eddies, Sector 26, Chandigarh: About
Having opened its doors to business only in February this year, Eddies Chandigarh is a relatively new entrant to the Sector 26 food scene. It’s a spacious European-styled restaurant dressed up in earthy shades of emerald, teal, and a popping yellow, with lounge-y sofas and comfy high chairs designed for leisurely lingering. An invitingly lit bar counter takes up the entire far end of the place, but at the time of my visit was disappointingly out-of-bounds, as they were operating on a weekend liquor license. The menu at Eddies Chandigarh lists contemporary, mostly Continental preparations, with the odd Indian or Asian dish thrown in for diversity. Expect soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, small eats, grills, and mains, with a handful of desserts.
Food:
My friends and I swung by for lunch last month and picked a real cheesy start to the meal: the Cheese Board, Three Cheese Poppers, and Chilli Cheese Toast. We’d been hearing good things about the burgers here so we were definitely going to give them a go. The vegetarians zeroed in on Un’beet’able Sliders and opted for Rosemary Chilli Paneer Tikkas from the grills selection, while it was the Classic Chicken Sliders and Rosemary Chilli Chicken Tikkas for meat-lovers. Fresh fruit juices helped wash it all down.
Plus & Minus:
The cheese board showed up as two separate serving plates: one with hard cheese favourites Manchego, Cheddar, Romano, and the crumbly feta; another with Melba toast, crackers and tiny bowls carrying dips and pickles. Unappealing presentation notwithstanding, it was a fine choice as an appetizer and vanished within minutes of its arrival on the table. The green-chillies topped cheese toast was just as delicious as the poppers served with harissa mayo. Both sets of sliders were a delightful burst of tastes and textures, and came in fives. I preferred the chicken-cheddar over the beet-cottage cheese combo mainly because it was doused in a yummy hot sauce. The tikkas were well-made and tasty yet unexceptional. It’s early days here but Eddies Chandigarh have a lot going for them.
