Dhaba Estd 1986 Delhi, Nungambakkam, Chennai: Decor
Dhaba Estd 1986 Delhi is fast becoming the place to go for authentic North Indian food. Crowds add colour and conversation to the already colorful interiors. Plenty of eye-grabbing elements, the most memorable one though, maybe even a showstopper (of sorts) is the front of a real truck on the first floor. Painted in red and yellow, it has the mandatory Ma ka aashirwad boldly visible in white. If you like, you can dine inside the cabin.
Dhaba Estd 1986 Delhi, Nungambakkam, Chennai: Food
The Highway Chicken is spicy, tongue-tickling yet softly succulent with all the expected flavours.
The Paneer Tikka has large chunks of the softest, well-marinated Paneer. I dip it in the accompanying mint chutney that shows off its bold flavours with full confidence.
I could’ve enjoyed Daadi Da Aloo better if it was cut into smaller pieces. Otherwise, the semi-gravy with tomatoes and cilantro could remind a proper Punjabi of the way their granny cooked.
Butter Chicken is every-thing one expects it to be. Orange, buttery, and… it is a little different. That chick-en has the tandoori flavour through and through.
Balti Meat is a signature. It comes in a bucket, and the meat is deliciously tender, loaded with… everything. Hot, dripping with ghee, Dhabe di Roti makes a good accompaniment. Dessert depends on the mood. I enjoyed the Matka Kulfi.
Plus & Minus:
The place has maintained its food and service standards. And the decor is eye-catching.
