Coladas, Kharadi, Pune: DECOR
A decor at this tiki bar—the first one in the city—is obviously inspired by Polynesian culture. There are tiki masks and murals, walls panelled with bamboo, servers dressed in Hawaiin shirts and general bonhomie. The music, however, isn’t in sync with the theme but is enjoyable nonetheless.
Coladas, Kharadi, Pune: FOOD
If you like pina coladas, be assured that you’ll get a good one here. Do try the Guava Colada, where you bite onto small pieces of fruit in the rum and coconut milk concoction. It’s a tiki bar and its fitting that most of their cocktails are rum-based, of which a great pick is the caramalised rum punch. Don’t let the sweetness of the caramel and cinnamon deceive you, it’s a deliciously potent drink. The Tribal LIIT, a blend of three different types of rum and brandy is not a lightweight either. On the other hand, the Tiki Traveller, a blend of whiskey, rum, peach and cranberry juice, served in skull-shaped glassware just ends up being too saccharine.
The drinks might be Polynesian-inspired, but the pub grub is largely dominated by Indian and comfort Chindian grub. The safest bet here is the Makad Meva – a blend of chana jor garam, chopped onions, tomatoes and peanuts. A solid chakna choice to go with a round of light drinking. Though the Tiki Fries (available with and without chicken) with healthy drizzles of barbecue sauce and melted cheese sounds like the perfect bar snack, the one here is lacklustre. Especially, the underwhelming fries. If taters are what you crave, do try the Potato Cafreal. Baby potatoes tossed in their rendition of a green cafreal masala, it’s quite addictive. Another oldie but a goodie is the Lollipop 2 Ways: two versions of chicken drumsticks; one generously slathered with schezwan sauce and the other deep-fried. There are skewers, of which the Prawn, Pineapple and Bacon is decent; and the Achari Brocolli and Cauliflower a tad too fiery. There’s a good selection of mains as well, of which the biryani seemed like a popular bet.
Coladas, Kharadi, Pune: PLUS AND MINUS
