Chidiya Ghar, Aerocity, New Delhi: Decor
There was a time when all big city hotels were known for their marquee bar. Some of the best-known mixologists of today in-variably started at a five-star hotel. But with a spree of standalone bars coming up in the city, in house bars at hotels slowly lost favor not just with diners but hotels as well. Bars started seeming like more of an afterthought with no innovations with the menu or sprucing of interiors. Newer hotels in the city are thankfully focusing on their in-house bar again. Chidiya Ghar at Roseate House is a perfect example of those good old bars that have a good cock-tail and food menu and are as good a drinking place for guests as hotel’s food outlets are. Exuding a retro charm with a modern menu, this 26-seater bar is just the spot where you would head for a day time gin or tequila concoctions or a late-night single malt. And yes, it is one of the only bar with an all-woman staff manning the place. And the name is a play on parent company Bird Group’s name than it being a theme of the place.
Chidiya Ghar, Aerocity, New Delhi: Food
Mixologist Anushkriti Negi ensures that guests at the hotel need not head out to Aerocity for good drinks. The cocktail menu has ample options — gin, lime, cucumber, rosemary and tonic concoction named J& K or Mediterranean tonic —gin with green apple, rosemary, straw-berry and tonic water (Rs. 950 each) to the signatures such as Mr Black— raisins in-fused whiskey stirred with coffee, pineapple toffee syrups and bitter (Rs. 1,100) to suit any mood or time of the day. Negi is an enterprising new entrant in the bar-tending arena and her enthusiasm for drinks and preparations are admirable. What sets this bar apart from others is a very good mocktail, iced tea, tea and cof-fee menu. And options such as Bonito—blueberry, coffee, mint, lime and ginger ale (Rs. 400) or quirky picks such as Very Beny — English breakfast tea stirred with berries, mint and ginger ale (Rs. 450) are worth a try. Chef Anuj Wadhawan ensures that the bar menu is at par with the menus of other well known restaurants at Roseate House. Com and jalapeno kebab (Rs. 800), burrata and mango relish kebab (Rs. 700), gunpowder prawns (Rs. 1,000) and tuna tossed with sesame oil (Rs. 1,000) are as good as bar snacks can get.
Plus & Minus:
One would have preferred the location to be a more accessible one like at the lobby level, near the entrance and not on the first floor where it is right now. An easy or a private entrance could have been a big draw for people in and around Aerocity to drop in for a quick couple of drinks.
