Casa Bella Vista Pizzeria An old Chandigarh haunt, this vegetarian cafe continues to draw hordes of food-lovers seeking relaxed meals amidst pretty surrounds. Not least for its verdant and sun-umbrella dotted outside enclosure, a popular winter hangout for many. I noticed an increase in seating on my last visit here, but little else has changed here; this is true of the menu as well. With the exception of a few healthful and vegan additions, it is by and large the same – bruschetta, salads, soups, pastas, and their top-selling wood-fired oven pizzas. They also offer a limited selection of desserts, crepes; a host of shakes, coolers, fresh juices, and hot beverages.

My all-time preferences from their menu include the Aubergine Bruschetta, Casa Bella Vista Salad, the spicy version of the Sauteed Zucchini, Broccoli and Mushroom Pasta, often alternated with the Green Ravioli. I’m generally not a soup-drinker, but if I had to pick one it would be the wholesome Minstrone or Onion Soup. It’s tough to decide on a favourite from the pizza selection, having equally relished a fiery Bang Bang Barcelona, the veggie-loaded Farmhouse, or plain old Margherita. At other times, it’s been the Mushroom Risotto or Lasagna, rounded off with a Cheesecake or Apple Pie and coffee.

Plus & Minus:

Although one’s always preferred dining-in at the cheerful pizzeria, for reasons previously shared, I recently ordered in a Sundance Pizza, Lasagne, and Banoffee Pie. This was my first experience with their doorstep delivery, and it wasn’t quite the same. The pizza arrived cooler than usual, overloaded with olives, and little sign of the buffalo mozzarella. The lasagna came in a standard microwaveable container, and was adequately sized. It had retained its flavourful warmth, and the accompanying dinner rolls, their softness. As for the pie, it also showed up warm (instead of chilled), in an oversized microwaveable container with much of the cream having rubbed off on its sides, rendering it unpalatable. I’ll probably just stick to dining-in.
