Caprese, Vasanth Nagar, Bangalore: Decor
Caprese is a stylish place on the 18th floor of Shangri-La. It’s all neat lines and muted shades. The patio outside is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner, with the cool breeze and lights of Vasanthnagar twinkling below.
Caprese, Vasanth Nagar, Bangalore: Food
I went to Caprese for a wine-paired dinner. After the canapes of bruschetta and Champagne, I sat down to my first course — Fresh Burrata, Semi Dried Cherry Tomato, Fava Beans and Aged Modena Balsamic Vinegar. The cheese was fresh and upon being sliced, its creamy centre spread across the plate, melding with the other ingredients. It was a perfectly dressed plate, but the beans were a bit underdone for my taste.
I also sampled the Il Classico Vitello Tonnato — the Italian classic of slow-cooked veal loin in tuna sauce, topped with capers and drizzled with basil oil. It didn’t look particularly pretty, but the meat was cooked beautifully and the sauce packed a salty punch. My main course was a Wild Mushroom Risotto and Toasted Saffron Pine Nuts. It was an excellent risotto — the rice cooked to the right al dente consistency, the mushrooms lending it a rich, earthy flavor and not overwhelmed by butter or cheese. The Campo Viejo Tempranillo was the wine served with this dish and it was a fine pairing.
For dessert, it was Homemade Fritelle – small balls of fried dough, filled with custard and dusted with caramelised sugar, which was a change from tiramisu and chocolate confections, and a pleasing ending to a satisfying meal.
