Revisited “Cafe Jc’s, Sector 10, Chandigarh” on November 18, 2022

Yet another Chandigarh eatery that needs no introduction, as the much awarded Café JC’s has been a popular hangout for several years. It is a lively, atmospheric, and pet-friendly space, and offers seating indoors as well as on the snug little efflorescent patio fronting it. Their multi-cuisine menu lists a wide range of popular Continental, American, Asian, and Indian dishes, it also thoughtfully includes treats for your pets should they be accompanying you. Café JC’s breakfasts are quite the rage too, with some of them available all-day, a few till 11. 30AM.

Food:

Eating at Café JC’s has by and large been a consistently good experience for me, barring the odd off-day. An observation that holds well since its earlier avatar as a Chinese restaurant (under the same management); much of that fare has spilled over into the current multi-cuisine menu. So when an out-of-towner friend wished to dig into some Indian Chinese nosh, we ended up here for a go at their Oriental Veggies in Coriander Sauce, Chilli Chicken Dry, Veg Fried Rice and Chilli Garlic Noodles. Preceded by the Greenolution Salad and rounded off with some Apple Crumble, Jasmine Tea, Green Tea, and Lembucha.

Plus & Minus:

The salad, heaped with greens and veggies, was much too sweet for my palate and could have done with less of the balsamic dressing. All the mains we ordered were tasty and pretty much on point–judicious in the use of oil and salt, fresh in flavours and rich in texture. Portions were more than adequate for our appetite that day; we polished off every bit of the food. The well-baked apple crumble, served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, was a fine choice as a shared dessert. Service, on the other hand, appeared to have taken a backseat that day. Our mains arrived separately one after the other at considerable intervals, minus serving cutlery. Time for a training refresher for the team methinks.
