Cafe Jc’s, Sector 10, Chandigarh: About
Feeling like some restaurant-style comfort food on a wintery evening recently, I scrolled through a number of menus before landing on Cafe JC’s ample one, listing breakfasts for early birds, all-day ones too, pastas, pizzas, soups, salads, sandwiches and such. It boasts multiple cuisine options including Italian and Asian, and canine-friendly food, should you be accompanied by furry friends. I note they’ve also been puffing their cosy picketed sit-out to good use with art workshops, a bazaar even. On my visits over several years, I have mostly found the staff polite and professional. The café radiates a lively vibe if you choose to dine-in—all cheerful colors and efflorescent decor. This time, however, I wished for culinary nostalgia to be doorstep delivered.
Cafe Jc’s, Sector 10, Chandigarh: Food
I’ve stopped by for a quick salad or pasta in the past but gave the Continental and Indian section a quick pass this time, as I’ve a special fondness for their Chinese preparations. The amusingly named Indo-Chini Bro-Bro Sizzler has been a preference for its oh-so Indian-Chinese-ness, but it doesn’t travel well. Besides, nothing spells nostalgia quite like a saucy American Chop Suey coupled with dry Chilli Chicken. And that’s what I got. Since re-heated fried eggs aren’t exactly to my taste, I opted for the vegetarian chop suey and got myself a fried egg just as I like it, over easy, from the home kitchen.
Plus & Minus:
The order arrived warm, within the stipulated time, in spill-proof containers. Portion size was more than sufficient and the crispy fried noodles had retained their gleeful crunch. The chop suey sauce—sweetish and starch thickened—did a wonderful job of offsetting the fiery combination of green chillies, ginger, and garlic in the chicken. I just wish it had had more veggies in there. The chicken was well-prepared: thinly coated, juicy and bursting with flavours. Mission accomplished, for each bite was a delicious step back into yesterday, once more.
