Byg Brewski Brewing Company, Hennur, Bangalore: Decor
If you’ve been impressed by the vastness and vibrancy of Byg Brewski in Sarjapur, be prepared to be swept away by the sight that unfolds as you enter this space. Huge doesn’t even begin to describe it.
There’s a waterbody at the centre and seating all around at various levels. I sat at a height, below the stage where a troupe of dancers in what seemed like Bavarian costumes were performing. It’s a very pretty sight from up there, with clever lighting creating lovely effects.
Byg Brewski Brewing Company, Hennur, Bangalore: Food
Byg Brewski hadn’t begun serving its craft beers when I went, so we settled for cocktails, which are also a house specialty. My companion gave the Old Fashioned 10 on 10. The skillful bar team suggested for a drink they called Spectre, hinting at darkness. It had two single malts, Fernet-Branca and was topped with a few drops of truffle oil. Luxurious, yes, but I thought it didn’t do enough justice to either of the great whiskies in the glass.
The food is Indian and from across the globe. First, there arrived at my table the Karari Roti, a massive roomali roti baked to a crisp and smeared with spicy masala. It’s the ideal thing for a group to break and nibble with their first round of drinks. The Arabic Fatayer was overly salty, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Piggy Chops Suimai and the Tunday-style kebab, though it was far removed from the original. For main course, we had Naati Chicken Curry and Soppu, dipping into these with Neer Dosa. Both dishes kept their rusticity and were perfectly done. I’ve also had a taste of the Double Masala Hyderabad Gosht Dum Biryani here and the Hakka Noodles, and both have been comforting and good. The Salted Caramel Cheesecake is a pleasant confection, if you wish to end on a sweet note.
Byg Brewski is also a popular spot for Sunday brunch with various packages you can choose from.
Byg Brewski Brewing Company, Hennur, Bangalore: Service
Given the vastness of the space and the number of customers there at any given time, the service team does a great job of getting food and drinks to the table without delays.
Byg Brewski Brewing Company, Hennur, Bangalore: Plus & Minus
If you want an absolutely buzzy place then this is it. From the long menu, some things hit the spot, others don’t.
