Brewpubs are the happening hangouts of the season and once-conservative Jayanagar is not to be left behind. Brew Meister is on a street packed with jewellery stores with its glass exterior affording a view. There’s seating at high tables, comfy couches and long tables for large groups.
Brew Meister, Jayanagar, Bangalore: Food
The brews are the standard line-up of witbier, pale ale, pilsner and a drinkable if not exceptional stout. If you follow this column, you’ve read my gripes about brewpub menus that seem to focus entirely on nacho-pizza-fries.
Brew Meister does serve pizza and pasta, but I was happy to note there are lots of other things to eat here, especially local dishes. I indulged my love of nostalgia with Egg Pakoda, a favorite cinema hall snack from the past. The Butter Garlic Prawns were excellent, swimming in a sea of butter and how can you not like that?
The Tandoor Lamb Chop was superlative, buttery, tender and beautifully seasoned. It was Bannur mutton, I was told. The Blazing Naga Pork was less spectacular. The meat was good, but the condiments were more Manchurian than North Eastern.
After the overload of small plates, we ate a very nice Donne Biryani with fragrant, nongreasy and tasty chicken. One at our table ordered the Meister Wurst Curly Sausage. The sausage was perfectly good, and so was the mash, but the gravy had been concocted from a stock cube and that made it too salty and overpowering.
Dessert is not a priority after an afternoon of craft beers and lots of food. But the staff insisted the Gulab Jamuns were made inhouse and I’m glad I ordered them. Three delicious jamuns, not too sweet and appetisingly warm, came accompanied by a small bowl of rabri.
Brewmeister does a good job with most of the food and that’s a very good reason to go here.

Brew Meister, Jayanagar, Bangalore: Plus & Minus
Brew Meister is a good option for a drinks and meal outing in south Bengaluru. I found the place too bright during the day, bathed in the harsh light that filters in through the large glass panes.
