Bonsouth, a unique global grill restaurant recently launched in Wakad and makes a promising entry on the grills and barbecue scene in Pune…
Bonsouth, Wakad, Pune: Decor
Located on the first floor, the restaurant is spread across the floor with an indoor and an al fresco seating. The decor is contemporary with hanging iron lampshades fitted with filament bulbs. The seating is comfortable and well-suited for a grills restaurant. The tables have been specially designed to include a cavity for lava stones which can be lit and covered by grill grates separate for vegetarian and non-vegetarian items to be placed on.
The lava stones cavity is flanked by an icebox which holds water bottles. They have also included a designated space for the sauces, oil brush and tongs.
This is a very unique and innovative design. In addition to the seating, there is ample space for the buffet spread along with an interesting open kitchen.
Bonsouth, Wakad, Pune: Food
Bonsouth serves an extensive range of grilled starters from across the globe. They also offer to adjust the spice level on these grills once you have tried them and serve the next rounds as per your taste.
Once we settled down, we were served two unique appetizers — the curd atom bomb which was a dahi ice cream topped with imli chutney and sev and the creamy soup served in bite-sized buns. After the appetizers, we were immediately served the starters. Probably the best of the lot were the succulent and flavorful mutton chapli kababs followed by the fiery garlic prawns. We asked for multiple servings and the servers happily kept them coming. Among the chicken starters, we loved the adivasi bamboo chicken which was served from bamboo stems and the smoky chicken wings. We were also served a bombil rava fry which was not very fresh. We hoped and craved for more fish options. While on the grill, there is a chance that the meat might dry out or burn. Make sure you either brush it with oil and keep turning or polish it off before the next serving. We were successful in doing the latter. Among the vegetarian options, we couldn’t get enough of the grilled pineapple, mushrooms and the crispy corn. To go with the starters, we ordered for the refreshing Peach Iced Tea which was served in a tall beaker.
Even after those multiple rounds of starters, we couldn’t resist the delicious Amritsari butter chicken with butter naan, the Goan fish curry with steamed rice and the dal bukhara just by itself. The dessert counter had a plethora of options. We tried almost everything, but we simply loved four of their most popular and most delicious desserts — elaneer payasam, mango gadbad, fruit custard and paan mousse.
The chocolate bomb or the chocolate lava cake served with berry compote and vanilla ice cream seemed the most apt dish to end our delicious meal.
Bonsouth, Wakad, Pune: Plus & Minus
Unlimited grilled starters served at the table is not a new concept in Pune and there are many successful restaurants with a similar theme. No doubt, Bonsouth is a great addition to this genre and Wakad as a location is the perfect choice. The unlimited buffet is priced very competitively and is definitely value-for-money. Our dining experience was also met with delicious food, great service and warm hospitality, but a complementing bar menu would further enhance the experience.
