Aura: Courtyard By Marriott SBR, Bodakdev, Ahmedabad: Overview

Aura is a smart and atmospheric restaurant on the third floor of the Courtyard by Marriott Sindhu Bhavan Road, with both inside and outside dining areas. The elevator brings you to the third floor, where the banquet hall of the hotel is on one side and the restaurant on the other. The tables are neatly laid out in rows with different kinds of seating, from chairs to cushioned settees. You can choose to sit near the buffet, at the two-seater tables for privacy, near the decorations on the wall or take a table near the French windows and glass walls for a view. The connected veranda has dining tables facing plants, water features and views of the surroundings. By day, natural light courses through the dining hall which is also well-lit after dark.

Food:

The restaurant has a multi-cuisine menu. The breakfast buffet was pretty extensive covering Indian and international offerings. From the live stations, I ordered fried eggs which were perfectly made with the sunny side up, with sausages, bacon and vegetables on the side. The dosa was also pretty good. For lunch, I decided to order east Asian food a la carte. The Khow Suey was comforting with the creaminess of coconut, some noodles and condiments on the side that I added to give it some crunch and bite. The satays, chicken-on-stick starters are tender and tangy, served with peanut sauce. For mains, the Thai Curry was mild and had a nice consistency, but it lacked the crisp and sharp taste associated usually with Thai pastes. The Lasagne was acceptable.

For dessert, the Hazelnut Dark Chocolate Brownie was rich and luscious with the chocolate shining through in the taste.

Plus & Minus:

Aura is a good place to visit for food and ambience. It has earned a good reputation for thematic brunches.

As most of the other diners during my visits have been room guests, a la carte service has often been slow – it is a good idea to meet the staff or chef for recommendations. The pastries are worth having.
