Launched in October last year, The Community Table is a spacious restaurant and bar located in Hinjawadi. It is one of the few restaurants that launched last year amidst the pandemic.

The Community Table is located in the Hinjewadi High Street developed on the lines of Balewadi High Street. With a capacity to seat more than 200 people, the resto-bar is spread across diverse seating and lounging areas. The ground floor has the bar right in the centre as you walk in along with a seating section that doubles up as a dance floor on weekends. This section has all the makings of a hip and happening nightclub. Neon lights, loungey seating, quirky posters and wall decor and a dedicated space for the music and DJ console. There is a more elegantly designed AC section with comfortable chairs and sofas. Right from the entrance, there are lots of plants spread throughout the space. The rooftop which is partly covered offers some panoramic views of the developing suburb. Currently, the rooftop is open for private events and corporate parties only, but eventually, they plan to open it for service.

The bar menu has the classic cocktails, but the server was gracious enough to ask our spirit preference and got the bartender to whip up some exciting cocktails for us. Each cocktail served was customized as per our liking. It was great to see the cocktails, high on spirits and low on sugar. Our drinks accompaniment was the delightful karari roomali roti. I was expecting the menu to be a typical, runoff-the-mill finger food-centric menu. While the menu does have a wide range of appetizers, it was heartening to see creativity and innovation with the dishes. Similarly, it was great to see a great range of vegetarian dishes at par with the non-vegetarian dishes on offer. We started with the crispy and delicious nadru ke guller, deep-fried lotus stem balls stuffed with cheese. The vegetarian starters continued with the earthy beetroot ki galouti and the beautifully grilled

cheese stuffed tandoori mushroom. The Bahubali non-veg kebab platter had a mix of chicken, lamb and prawn kebabs, grilled to perfection and served with salad and chutney. This is a great dish to order if you are in a group. We also tried the fiery and delicious tawa thecha prawns. The prawns were generously coated with the spicy Maharashtrian green thecha. The gilafi seekh kebab was flavorful and a great follow-up to the spicy prawns. The kebabs had finely chopped capsicum mixed with the meat mince which gave it a unique texture. Our spice exploration continued with the Varhadi kombdi which was unfortunately too spicy for my taste. The chicken was cooked with chillies and special masalas from Vidarbha. Among the mains, we started with the Burmese Khow Suey, a traditional Burmese broth with coconut milk, boiled noodles and vegetables. Accompaniments like crushed peanuts, chilli flakes, fried garlic, lemon wedges and fresh coriander were served alongside. The broth was mild and extremely flavorful and the accompaniments, particularly crushed peanuts and fried garlic and onion, helped enhance the taste. The innovative kacche ghade ka pakkamurg was served in an earthen pot. Baby chicken wrapped in banana leaves, slow-cooked in the pot, this was tasty and the chicken was cooked beautifully. The desserts section is limited but has a surprise signature platter which has three different types of creamy and delicious shrikhand served with fruit compote on a bed of oreo dust. Ingenious.

Plus & Minus:

The customized drinks, particularly the gin-based cocktails and the food was the highlight of our evening at The Community Table. Of course, the hip ambience and the comfortable vibe added to the experience. The staff was helpful, friendly and courteous and the service was good. Some dishes were a bit heavy on the spice. The addition of shrikhand to the desserts menu is ingenious, but otherwise, the section can do with some more creative additions.
