Kynd Cafe & Bar is located in a quiet lane just off North Main Road next to Westin. Fashion designer Eshita Deoskar and entrepreneurs Vaishali Sanghvi and Vishal Karia are the team behind this vegetarian-only cafe and bar, that serves globally-inspired food. The name Kynd is a play on “being kind” to every living being around you and spreading kindness.
Kynd Cafe & Bar, Mundhwa, Pune: Decor
Kynd surrounds a fashion boutique and adds similar high fashion elements to the decor. They have made sure that no trees are cut or dislodged. So right in the middle of the cafe, there is a huge tree that stretches horizontally. This has been used as a decor element and goes with the vision for which Kynd stands for. There is an island bar with a huge white giraffe next to it. All through the spaces, there are such quirky, well-picked curios. The colour scheme of the furniture, light fixtures and even the serving plates is themed around cool pastel shades of grey, blue, pink and mauve. A high ceiling, lush green planters and natural light all day, makes this place the perfect spot for a brunch or a sundowner. They also have an in-house DJ and space for events where they often host live gigs.
Kynd Cafe & Bar, Mundhwa, Pune: Food
Chef Prakash Joshi has curated a very interesting all vegetarian menu along with vegan and Jain options. It is primarily European but also has some other globally inspired dishes. Their bar menu has been put together meticulously too. From the special section dedicated to gin-based cocktails, we tried the Cointreau island, a heady mix of gin, elder flower, oranges and ginger ale. We also tried the refreshing three melon sangria and the Kynd mimosa, and both were perfect for a sunny afternoon brunch. To go with our mimosas, we got a few dishes from their all-day breakfast and small plates menus. There are some great options to pick from. The soy mirin marinated mushrooms were presented beautifully and were quite delectable. The light and crispy cigar rolls stuffed with bell peppers, sun-dried tomatoes and cheese and the delicately constructed bok choy dim sums are two other highly recommended appetizers. The Amsterdam croquettes made from zucchini and served with a special dip were disappointing. The croquettes were golden-fried but lacked seasoning. The tartine platter had warm and crusty baguette bread topped with an assortment of cold toppings of avocado, beetroot hummus, edamame hummus and tomato and buffalo mozzarella. This was one of the best dishes on the menu. It was heartening to see a whole section dedicated to truffles. I personally love the intense, umami flavor of truffles, so we got the cheese truffle pizza and the truffled roasted mashed potatoes. Both these dishes were packed with the signature truffle flavor. The mains options are limited but feature some cracking dishes. Our pick was the penne pasta with a creamy tomato sauce, which was really tasty.
Plus & Minus:
While I enjoy vegetarian food, I always gravitate towards non-vegetarian food while dining out. People generally don’t associate European food with being vegetarian. Kynd manages to break this stereotype successfully. To my surprise and pleasure, I did not miss meat and immensely enjoyed the food. The drinks and food menu is diverse, the dessert menu is rather limited.
