Paris Panini French Street Food, Indiranagar, Bangalore: Decor

This four-month-old eatery squeezes into 12th Main, next door to Pizza Bakery, and makes good use of the limited space. Past the counter where you place the order and behind which the food is prepared is a narrow room with blue tiled walls and black and white drawings evoking Paris. Aptly so, for the menu revolves around a quintessentially Parisian snack – the panini. There’s also a small outdoor space enclosed by a white picket fence.

Paris Panini had me at the Classic Salted Fries (₹170). Who makes hand-cut, double cooked fries from raw potatoes in this town? The Paris Panini version satisfied as only French fries made the proper way do.

These are among the ‘sides’ here. The mainstay of the menu are paninis, made with bread baked fresh every day. There are a dozen types to pick from, five of them vegetarian. You can make a combo — half a panini, a side and a dip (half the price of your panini, plus ₹140). With the fries, I had the panini christened Louis (₹280 for the full) with bacon, bechamel sauce, caramelized onion and mustard. All the ingredients were of the best quality, the filling was generous, the bread was fresh and toasted just right. It was the perfect sandwich. For a dip, I chose the Garlic Mayo, made in-house, a far cry from commercial mayonnaise; Paris Panini also makes its own ketchup and mustard. Try here also the Onion Rings (₹170), again made in-house with any leftover panini bread being turned into the breadcrumbs, and the Cheese Toast (₹150) with a fresh, herb-flecked cheese.

At the end of this utterly satisfying meal I drank a caffeine-free tea of strawberry, cock’s comb and hibiscus (₹140) — by Karma Kettle — with Creme Caramel (₹100), sinful salted caramel in a cup with buttery langues de chat, the thin, crisp biscuits, to scoop it up with.

Service:

You pick from the menu on the wall, pay at the counter and the food is brought to your table. Service is efficient.

Plus & Minus:

Frenchman Nicolas started off selling panini from a food truck before opening this cool cafe. His make-from-scratch approach is reflected in the quality of everything they serve here. And I hope it always remains that way.
