Indi Genius Restrau Cafe, Prahlad Nagar, Ahmedabad: Decor
The interiors of this cafe style restaurant is a bit of hodgepodge with a mixture of different elements and seating areas. The seating arrangements range from high chairs and casual bistro style furniture to settees. The brick walls and rustic woody tabletops are contrasted with some of the youthful elements of the cafe. Keeping with the name, most of the furniture and props are handmade.
Indi Genius Restrau Cafe, Prahlad Nagar, Ahmedabad: Food
The menu is diverse with items ranging from cafe favorites like burgers and sandwiches to popular multi-cuisine restaurant mains. We decided to focus more on the Bengali dishes. The vegetable chop was a well filled croquette with carrot, beetroot and peas, but the prawn chop that was on the day’s special menu had too much potato that did not allow the prawn to shine. The chicken cheese cutlet, paneer cutlet and vegetable cutlet are other good snacks.
The egg Mughlai paratha is worth having. They also have Bengali specials like alur dom with luchiand ghugni with radhaballavi. The Bengali fish curries like the katla kaliya are among the specials of the restaurant. They sometimes have shorshe ilish bhapa, hilsa fish marinated in a paste with mustard seeds and steamed after wrapping in a banana leaf.
We also liked their coffees.
Plus & Minus:
We had a mixed experience at this cafe in terms of food and service but it is a pleasant place for a meal or a snack, and one of the few places in Ahmedabad with Bengali food. They have festivals and events happening all the time. The bill stressed that a percentage of the revenue goes for good causes.
