Madhurya, Bodakdev, Ahmedabad: Decor

Madhurya has a spacious parking area from where paths meander to the lawn, open-sided restaurant and a/c dining hall which doubles as a restaurant and a banquet. The striking feature of Madhurya is a good number of trees and plants, which together with some water features attracts bird life that can be seen when sitting out on the patio like restaurant.

Madhurya, Bodakdev, Ahmedabad: Food

This restaurant has both traditional dishes of Gujarat and Rajasthan, and also modern takes on these dishes. We enjoyed the farsans like the crunchy multi-layered besan covered Patra, Desi Handvo and the Khata Dhokla nicely laced with dahi and fried snacks like the Mix Bhaji Na Muthiya and the Dal Wada. They also have fusion versions like the Handva Tostadas and the Pesto Patra. The Dahi Padpdi Chaat was piquant and well-balanced and Masala Boondi is a house special. Here again there are various versions of chaat like those using the Gujarati-style Dhokla or the Mexican Nachos. I also had the Asian Greens Soup, which was pretty good.

For the mains, we enjoyed the regional dishes like the Sev Tomata, Rasa Wala Bataka, Dahiwla Gatta, the garlicky Lasaniya Bataka and Gujarati Kadi. For those who like Rajasthani food, they have dishes like Dal Batti and Rajasthani Kadi. Madhurya has many of the popular North Indian, Asian, Italian and Tex-Mex dishes. Expectedly many paneer dishes feature on the menu as do pasatas and pizzas. There are some fusion dishes like Thepla Chimichanga which has Mexican rice, beans, salsa and sour creem in a thepla, and Khandvi Cannelloni and also Kasundi Bhindi where Bengali style mustard paste is applied on okra.

The restaurant is specially strong on sweets. The Kesar Jalebi was sinful, the Phirni was creamy, the Sukhdi had a rich crumbly texture, and the Malpua was delightful. Garam Chuto Mohanthal and Maagni Daal No Siro are other must haves. They also serve fresh ice-creams.

Plus & Minus

This place has an appealing ambience with a profusion of greenery. I recommend avoiding the fusion and global fare, and instead enjoying the delicious regional foods on the menu. And of course you must leave room for desserts.
