Daily Treats: The Westin, Mundhwa, Pune: Decor
Originally the cafe would just blend in with the entrance lounge of The Westin, but the newly refurbished decor now sets it apart. The seating is tastefully done and extremely comfortable and the open kitchen and a live grill set a perfect ambiance for an all-day dining restaurant.
Daily Treats: The Westin, Mundhwa, Pune: Food
Daily Treats has now been converted to a 24-hour restaurant and the newly curated menu features classic comfort food perfect for postparty or midnight hunger pangs. The menu also offers a lot of healthy options like smoothies, salads and hippie bowls.
We couldn’t stop admiring the beautifully presented beetroot carpaccio salad. Cones of sliced beetroot filled with a honey mustard emulsion were served with grated fennel, arugula, orange segments and goats cheese. It was as fresh and delicious as it looked. We paired our salads with the refreshing aam panna mint and unique paan and pineapple lemonade. The manakish za’atar, an Arabic flatbread was freshly made in an open kitchen and a wood fired grill. The oven-fresh bread was topped with za’atar spices and was served with humus, labneh, olives and cucumbers.
We almost ordered everything from the conversation starters section. We started with the currently in trend avocado toast. Mashed avocado topping served on crusty bread and served with an arugula and heirloom tomato salad, this one was refreshing and a perfect meal starter. We moved on to the Spanish tapa, patatas bravas. The potatoes were perfectly crispy and were filled with a spicy tomato sauce. For the prawn lovers, we recommend the Kerala fried shrimps. The shrimps were marinated with curry leaves and spices and batter-fried to make them crunchy and served with green chutney. We also ordered the scrumptious chicken popcorn which came with a spicy chipotle mayo.
There is a certain quirky and nostalgic feel to the new menu at Daily Treats. It features some popular ‘Indian’ Chinese street-food dishes. We just couldn’t resist the triple schezwan chicken fried rice. The fried rice was served with schezwan chutney completely reminiscent of the Chinese food carts across the city! The perfect accompaniment to the rice was a plate of crispy chicken lollipops.
From the old school favorites, we recommend the Dilli-6 ke chhole kulche. The mushy chhole were perfectly spiced and the curry was yellow. The taste came very close to the ones served on the streets of Delhi. They were served with the softest kulchas ever. Though the flavorful chicken ghee roast, served with egg appam (with a soft yolk) was delicious and made us very happy, we wished it was a mutton ghee roast!
For desserts, the choice was simple as there were churros on the menu. The churros were rightly crispy from outside and soft from inside. Drizzled with cinnamon sugar, they came with a chocolate sauce and creme anglaise. I would go back repeatedly for these! For chocolate lovers of course there is the flour-less Chocolate XS cake and a wide range of handmade gourmet chocolates.
