Tim Tai, Koramangala 5th Block, Bangalore: Decor

Tim Tai is on Koramangala street that is lined with restaurants, catering to the clientele of an area populated mostly by students and start-up company workers.

The style quotient here is, however, several notches higher than the typical student hangout.

The colour palette of mauve and lime green is pleasing and there’s a tree with spreading branches in the middle. On weekend nights it’s the family crowd that frequents the place and children can be spotted bouncing on the sofas while indulgent parents look on.

Tim Tai, Koramangala 5th Block, Bangalore: Food

It’s Pan Asian on the menu here. I first had the Tom Yum soup and it was spicy and sharp. The Spicy Glass Noodle Salad was an utter and bland disappointment, merely a huge mound of noodles with no punch in the dressing. The Dim Sum were nicely done and I particularly liked the vegetarian offerings. The lotus stem is now a Pan Asian restaurant staple and the Tim Tai version is predictable with a honey chilli glaze. The Tim Tai Chilli Chicken was tasty enough.

For main course, I chose the Vietnamese Spicy Prawn with Lemongrass. It was spicy, but I got no hint of lemongrass and the dish ended up being rather more like a chilli spiced curry. The Broccoli and Mixed Mushrooms I had with the prawns and Jasmine Rice was subtle and one of the better parts of my main course. For dessert, it was a refreshing Green Tea Ice Cream; they were out of the Sticky Rice and Stewed Peach, which I would otherwise, have ordered.

Tim Tai, Koramangala 5th Block, Bangalore: Service

The waiters and hostesses are friendly and welcoming. You will, in fact, have too much attention than not enough.

Tim Tai, Koramangala 5th Block, Bangalore: Plus & Minus

The ambience is pleasant, but meals here could be a case of hit-or-miss. There’s no alcohol, not even soft drinks, except the mocktails they make.
