Just about a month old, The Yellowhammer serves classic European food in a typical British pub setting.
The Yellowhammer, Koregaon Park, Pune: Decor
The moment you walk in, you will notice the Victorian theme, reminiscent of some British pubs. The decor is contemporary and the place is spacious and well-lit. The ground floor has the bar counter with high chairs and comfortable leather sofas and chairs, perfect to enjoy some drinks with friends.
Them ezzanine floor is accessible through a spiral staircase. This area has a comfortable cafe-like ambiance thanks to the use of high-back leather arm chairs. They are planning to start an outdoor section which would be perfect for brunches.
The Yellowhammer, Koregaon Park, Pune: Food
The menu is completely European and divided into classic, rustic and contemporary. In the nibbles section we started with the spinach ricotta cigars. The filo pastry cigars were light and crunchy and the spinach and ricotta stuffing was delicious. Coupled with wasabi mayo, this dish was a total winner.
Another winning dish on the menu was the lamb croquettes. The spiced mince lamb croquettes were breaded and deep-fried to perfection. We could have easily polished-off another dozen of these. Smoked salmon and cucumbers is a match made in heaven and tastes the best with crusty bread along. The topping of smoked salmon cucumber on the tartines was fresh and the bread was crusty. You will be spoilt for choices in the mains section. Individual pages are dedicated to the rustic, classic and contemporary recipes from across Europe. We chose the five herb ravioli shitake chanterelle. The flavor of mushrooms dominated this dish. The mushroom stuffed ravioli was cooked well, but the herbed white sauce was more floury than creamy. The Tuscan chicken steak was a safe choice, but it was delicious. The chicken was cooked well and the accompanying herbed rice, garlic spinach and roasted tomato complemented the chicken. We were intrigued by everything in the rustic section. But what can be more rustic than a steak stew. The stew was hearty and the flavors were spot-on. The beef was perfectly slow cooked, the carrots and potato chunks were great additions and the toasted bread went well with the stew. We ended the meal with the classic tiramisu which was creamy and delicious. They do not have a dessert menu and we suggest that they curate one pronto.
The Yellowhammer, Koregaon Park, Pune: Plus & Minus
The Yellowhammer offers an interesting European menu and the food is exceptionally good. The staff was polite, friendly and hospitable, but the service was mixed and has room for improvement. If The Yellowhammer keeps up the quality and taste of food to what it is now and betters the service, it has the potential to give stiff competition to some of the best restaurants and bars in Koregaon Park.
