Thai Chy, Indiranagar, Bangalore: Decor
Thai Chy is on Double Road, in a not-so-swank quarter of Indiranagar. The interior decorators have made a serious effort to glam it up, with pillars wrapped in gold-flecked prints and images of the Buddha and Chinese dragons on the walls. If it had all been toned down a notch, it would have far greater appeal as a neighborhood eatery for some satisfying Asian food.
Thai Chy, Indiranagar, Bangalore: Food
The menu is bewilderingly long; it must have 300-plus dishes, ranging from soup, cold and warm appetizers, momos, dim sum and baos to stir fries, curries, rice, noodles and dessert. So, it took some trawling through before our table of three decided on what to eat. The Raw Mango Salad was spot-on with the sweetness of fried onion slivers perking up it tangy notes. The Crispy Bamboo Shoot & Water Chestnut, enlivened with a chilli lemongrass topping, was equally delicious and should be a hit with vegetarians.
We followed that up with fabulous Duck Rolls from the cold appetizer selection. The pancakes were soft, the meat tender and the sauce just right. The Crispy Prawn Cheung Fun, the rolled dim sum, was another star on the menu. The Ikan Pepes was fish slathered with a Balinese spice mix, wrapped in a banana leaf and griddle cooked. The dish was let down by the fact that the fish was basa, its texture failing to complement the strong flavors of the sauce.
We moved on to stir fries and curries. The deep fried Sea Bass topped with chilli, lime leaves and basil wasn’t the spicy, herby thing the description promised, being way too sweet. The Thai Red Curry was pleasant enough, eaten with plain rice. I did not much care for the Thai Chy Special Chilli Coriander Noodles — they were deep-fried and didn’t have a particular hit of chilli or coriander.
For dessert, there was the predictable Tub Tim Krop, which is nicely done and presented here. The Coconut Pannacotta lacked creaminess and the right wobble.
So, some of the dishes were outstanding, some less so. Still, at the price Thai Chy is a great choice for some delightful Pan Asian fare.

Expect warm hospitality from a service team that looks relatively new.
Thai Chy, Indiranagar, Bangalore: Plus & Minus
Most dishes are superbly executed and the price is another attraction. The menu is too long and that, I think, puts pressure on the kitchen, making some of the dishes not so brilliant.
