The Adventure Travel Trade Association and Switzerland Tourism have shared a strong relationship within adventure travel and sustainable tourism for many years. For the first time ever, we will be returning to a destination to celebrate the ten year anniversary of our 2012 Adventure Travel World Summit held in Lucerne Switzerland.
On 03 – 06 October, 2022 we will gather together in the iconic area of Lugano, a region of Ticino, Switzerland to hear from inspirational speakers, engage in networking opportunities, meet others in Marketplace and MediaConnect, and even have the opportunity to take a mid-afternoon urban swim in Lake Lugano. The primary focus will be centered on Sustainable Tourism, with the Summit theme convening around the elements of fire, water, air, and earth.
Ever since my participation at the Adventure Travel World Summit in Sweden in 2019, it was my dream to get this exciting event back to Switzerland. After all, Switzerland is the cradle of adventure travel and still today, the adventure capital of Europe.

Getting to Lugano, Ticino, Switzerland
By Air
A large number of airline companies land in Zurich, Geneva, Basel and Bern Belp. Swiss International Air Lines is the national carrier of Switzerland serving more than 100 worldwide destinations. For ATWS 2022 we recommend flying to either Zurich or Milan.
By Car
Coming from Milan: take the Laghi A9 motorway in the direction of Como-San Gottardo or the A8 motorway in the direction of Varese-Stabio (Gaggiolo). Advised exit: Lugano Sud.
Coming from Zürich: take the A2 motorway in the direction of San Gottardo-Chiasso-Italy. Advised exit: Lugano Nord.
Please remember that to drive on Swiss motorways it is necessary to be equipped with the motorway sticker that is to be applied onto the car windshield (the cost: CHF 40.-, valid from January to December) it may be purchased at Customs (Gaggiolo – Stabio, Ponte Tresa, Chiasso).
PARKINGPAY: Download the application via Google Play or App Store, which allows the payment of the parking time in the Lugano car parks via smartphone. Ask in the shops, to operators and hoteliers for the parking discount voucher (CHF 2.- or CHF 5.-) to be included in the application.

LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura is the new Arts Centre dedicated to the visual arts, music and the performing arts, which promises to become one of Switzerland’s most important cultural institutions, with the aim of promoting a wide range of art and establishing Lugano as a cultural crossroads between northern and southern Europe.

Lugano is the ideal location for any public or private event. All Lugano Convention & Exhibition venues can be used for different types of events, they are all located in the city centre and are well connected by the public transport system.

The Lugano Lido offers the visitor numerous opportunities: a wonderful fine sandy beach on the shores of Lake Ceresio, heated Olympic swimming pool, a medium size swimming pool, a diving pool with trampolines up to 10 m high, a pool suitable for children with water games, a beach volley court and a five-a-side football pitch. We will have a beach party at the end of the convention on the shore of the Lake with a fantastic view facing the Monte San Salvatore.

Ticino invites all 2022 ATWS delegates to explore their beautiful area on a Day of Adventure. Ticino’s adventure tour operators crafted itineraries to experience a wide range of activities that will showcase the strength and depth of Switzerland’s “swisstainable” mindset. These adventures will include urban swimming and stand-up paddleboarding in Lake Lugano, mountain biking on Mounte Brè, uncovering the cultural history of Mount Verità, paragliding over Lake Lugano, learning how to cook the perfect risotto, or climbing one of the highest artificial climbing walls at the Diga di Luzzone Dam.
