The Teal Door Cafe, Indiranagar, Bangalore: Decor
There is, you’ll agree, something alluring about a brightlypainted door. From its name to the atmosphere it creates, seemingly effortlessly, Teal Door Café is all charm. It’s on two levels and there’s also a small outdoor deck overlooking the noisy street. Indoors, it’s an inviting mix of vintage chairs and low sofas. Fairy lights and dreamcatchers make it pretty in a homely way. This, then, is the perfect café, a place to linger over your Latte or Bananella Shake, catching up with friends or on a casual date.

Most café food leaves me cold. I’m talking micro-waved muffins and lifeless samosas. Teal Door Café makes a serious effort to serve familiar dishes with some fun tweaks and delivers food and drinks that you can enjoy in an unhurried way.
I would highly recommend the Chai here — Cutting, Masala and Adrak. They are brewed just right and served in kulhads, which makes it even better. On the food menu, there are the standard soups, salads, sandwiches, but also dishes from the South and some global-local melding, which results in some tasty plates.
One of my favorite things at Teal Door Cafe is the Pav Thai — really good pav, warm and fresh, served with minced chicken in a red or green Thai curry. It’s a combination that works surprisingly well. I love the Mini Dosa Platter, too, six small dosas — podi, onion, masala — served with chutneys and sambar. Instant noodle lovers can order Maggi in a variety of sauces, and there are also substantial meals such as Chicken or Prawn Ghee Roast, served with Malabar Parotha and a home-style Chicken Curry.
Teal Door Cafe’s Filter Coffee is perfect, too, and I like to have mine with the lovely Churros from the dessert menu. Along with the traditional chocolate, here the Cinnamon Sugar-Dusted Churros are served with whipped cream and honey as well.
I so like the food here, I’d have rated it 3.75, but on one occasion the Coconut Chutney that came with the Bajjis was off. A pity.

I was touched to learn that Teal Door Cafe employs several underprivileged women, some of them having battled abuse. Here, they find hope and empowerment. The service is always welcoming. And if you have to wait a little for your order, don’t become all agitated. It’s a cafe, for relaxing.

This is a pleasant place for a taste of Goa. While some dishes are spot-on, others fall short. So, you take your chances here.
