The Hideout Bistro, Anna Nagar East, Chennai Cafe: DECOR
Simple, classy, bright. Those are the three words I’d use to describe this beautifully re-furbished brown, beige and cream home, that has splashes of colour in the form of throw cushions. What I absolutely enjoy from my air conditioned enclosure is the view of Hideout Bistro’s backyard. A lovely swing sits still in dazzling sunlight, daring me to sit on it. I’m not about to succumb.

Eggs Benedict. I like how the yolk oozes out at the mere touch of my knife and soaks into the round slice of toast below. Wait. Toast? Yes. This one is the Hideout Bistro version. In between my eggs, I sip on Sunstroke, the Rosoda based refresher, loaded with lime slivers and mint leaves floating around along with ice cubes and bubbles.
Captivating, the green Cream of Cilantro Soup is a perfect balance of cilantro, minced chicken and garlic. A drizzle of olive oil on top adds to the taste and the visual appeal.
The Oreo Cookie Pancake stack, looking quite appealing, arrives with some thin slices of strawberry and mint, livening up the platter. Somehow, the Oreo cookie crumble mixed with whipped cream does not quite cut it for me, especially since Shivita, whose inspiration is Nigella Lawson, is such a wonderful baker, with years of global cooking and learning experience behind her. I’m completely sold on the Green Lantern Salad. Love the toasted quinoa with pepper, onion and feta cheese crumbles. That poached, buttered, browned pear and caramelized walnuts bring sweetness and crunch to the graininess of this one.
Taking me higher, the Pulled Lamb Ragu, slow cooked and loaded with robust lamb flavor has pepper, onion, leek and tomatoes lifting it to a level where flavors meet textures. The Aglio Olio spaghetti simply soaks up all the juices, making it nicely moist.
Another interesting creation, the Sheik Burger has flavors of the Mediterranean in its patty and (of all things) fried feta cheese. Making it that bit… oilier? Maybe they should use a plain feta cheese slice.

I like that Shivita is the woman of today. She simply took charge, refurbished, cooked, and keeps doing what she believes in. I also like that she is open to suggestion. I just hope she replaces those Oreo cookies with a lovely home-made chocolate chip cookie crumble in her pancakes. Hideout Bistro is a place to watch in Anna Nagar as they have many events and happenings planned.
