The Asian specialty restaurant at Four Points by Sheraton has a new menu that focuses on individual dishes rather than set meals.

Panash – Four Points by Sheraton, Viman Nagar, Pune: DECOR

Hidden from view on the first floor, just next to Best Brews (their bar) is Panash. Without excess adoration, the setting is fuss-free but there are obvious indications to the cuisine the restaurant specializes in via pops of oriental reds, teppan stations etc. The interiors won’t bowl you over, but it isn’t lackluster either.

Panash – Four Points by Sheraton, Viman Nagar, Pune: FOOD

Take caution to not fill up on shrimp and rice crips that are brought to the table as you wait for your order. This was one the first few restaurants in the city to roll out sushi and they still do. Their chef’s platter- a mix of sushi and sashimi- is a good way to start off. You get tuna, salmon and shrimp nigiri, pieces of thick tuna sashimi (slices of raw fish), shrimp tempura roll and temaki (a cone-shaped sushi). For Rs. 1,900, this is a generous and a delicious plate, barring a few issues like under-cooked rice in the nigiri and the chewy nori (seaweed).

There’s teppanyaki, where you can choose your sauces to pair with the meat or veggies. The tenderloin with leeks and spring onion in a black pepper sauce would have made for a good bite if the meat wasn’t overtly dry and super chewy; the Mix mushroom with shiitake, button and cartilage – like white fungus with burnt garlic, on the other hand, was pretty decent. Of the dim sums, the vegetable green dumpling with a delicious filling of spinach, bok choy, mushroom and celery suffered due to the thick, doughy wrapper. Other interesting appetizers to try include the Peking roast duck, shreds of roast duck (wish it has crispy skin!) slathered with plum and hoisin sauce and wrapped in tortillas, and crispy-fried vegetables tossed lightly in bean sauce called vegetable konjinaro. Of the mains, the robust Malaysian lamb rendang curry with jasmine rice is absolutely lip-smacking, and so are the Buckwheat Noodles. Unfortunately, like most Asian restaurants, the desserts are a letdown – be it the grainy-textured matcha pudding or the saccharine coconut pancake with vanilla ice cream.

Panash – Four Points by Sheraton, Viman Nagar, Pune: PLUS AND MINUS

Quite affordable and still off-the-radar, Panash is a good option for some Asian grub.
