Dhaba Estd 1986 Delhi, Kondapur, Hyderabad: DECOR
With a casual dining setup woven around the theme of a traditional dhaba serving North Indian and Mughlai cuisines in a rustic ambience, the outlet boasts of cosy and clean interiors with ample lighting. The seating is apt with bright colored chairs and wooden tables that gel well with the theme. The charm of the place is the wall with negative shades of yesteryear’s popular Bollywood artistes hung on it and the dance that the entire staff performs to chart-busters every hour.
Dhaba Estd 1986 Delhi, Kondapur, Hyderabad: FOOD
Their menu is a well-laid out one with a good balance of veggies and meat dishes. We began with Tawa Bhindi Masala — a typical home-styled dish of ladyfingers tossed with onions, tomatoes and special spicy masala. Then came the juicy Highway Chicken Tikka that is perfectly tandoored with the right flavors. One can also try their house specials — Palak Paneer Ki Seekh, Tandoori Bhuni Sabzi and Mutton Seekh. Their signature cocktails complement the food menu well.
From the entrée, we knew what to order and went for Balti Meat that fared well in appearance and texture. The curry was thick with right consistency and the lamb was freshly cooked (not precooked) and tender that went well with steamed rice and roti. Chitta Butter Chicken, Kanastari Baigan Bharta and Dal Dhaba too were noteworthy, which were quite aromatic and appetising. They are generous with their portion.
Finally, for those with a sweet-tooth, there is Dhabe Da Meetha with layers of vanilla ice cream, shahi tukda and mini gulab jamun topped with saffron Rabri. Badam Halwa is a puree of almonds cooked with condensed milk and is exceptionally good and should be on the must-try list. Apart from the à la carte menu, they have lunch buffet as well. The service staff is a very attentive and responsive one.
