If a good vegetarian, no-frills meal (resplendent with ghee and butter) is what you crave, this one won’t disappoint.

A small elevator will take you to the first floor where the restaurant is located. Like any good ol’ family-style restaurant, the decor here is bright and chock-a-block with comfortable seating. For a big familyfriends meet, there is a dedicated space. The tables, though, comfortable could have done with cleaner tablecloth and table runners.

Known for their dishes with Sindhi sway, the menu veers from North Indian cuisine to some Indo-Chinese staples. Though there are plenty of choices, the unlimited Thali here is highly rec ommended. Not as elaborate as some of the other thalis in the city, the one here served has a few options, but almost everything on the plate has a distinct flavour and is delicious.

Apart from the dal, the other vegetarian preparations change on a regular basis. Do try the alu methi here. The one served here is verdant with methi leaves, and is spiced beautifully to subtly mask the bitterness of the methi. The paneer bhurji, almost gravy-like, was decent, and so was the tawa sabji with potatoes, cauliflower and okra. The dal fry here is quite different.Moong dal cooked with almost no spices and topped with a bed of fried onions fried in a ghee tadka! Quite delicious. If you’re looking for a dish that is uniquely Bhagat Tarrachand, try the sev tomato. Thick ghatiya sev in lip-smacking tomato gravy. The only downside to an otherwise good meal was the bread. The wheat chapati and the jowar bhakri both had traces of maida (refined flour), which tampered with the texture as well as the taste. The moong dal sheera, dazzling with ghee, and the creamy malai rabdi are fitting ways to end the meal on a sweet note.

The food is largely good, and isn’t laden with oil or spices. The service, though fast, the waitstaff (barring a few) can be more attentive. *Critic reviews are anonymous and all bills are paid by them.
