Go on, take your dog and go to this must visit, pet-friendly Kala Ghoda cafe. Go to this vegetarian café even if you’re a non-vegetarian. Ignore the grotty side entrance as you take the lift upto the second floor. I have to thank my wonderful bankers for this discovery. Forever helpful Margretosy Nadar and Saurabh Saroshe, both discerning foodies help me check out Knead, as we discuss the intricacies of banking and eat our way through the menu. We buy lots of products to take home too (₹10350.00 bill).
Knead By Moshe Shek, Fort, Mumbai: Decor
Walk into the brightly lit, cheery large room. Dotted with refurbished typewriters, safes and chairs (we are told these were amongst the rubble in the space when they bought it). Enrobed in greys and whites, dotted with hanging lamps, the large room has a choice of tables, chairs and sofas to lounge on. Kudos Ajit Shilpi, pleasant and welcoming ambiance!
Food:
It’s rare to find such focussed simplicity and attention to detail. Knead is a haven for those who I like to call ‘dough-buffs’. Not only does Moshe make perfect puff pastry in-house , as also the sour doughs with only three ingredients followed by a three day process. Please ask for the crispy, airy filo pastry (baked into B’stilla). Don’t miss the flat bread topped with dreamy creamy labneh. Lavash, potato bread all in celebration of the ‘kneading’ process. Natural flour and everything else natural too, no processed products here. They roast their own coffee (Chikkamagaluru beans). Original dishes from Eastern Europe’s pierogi to the portobello mushroom soup, even Jewish Kosher food here.
Fondue lovers this way please! Especially if you’re nostalgic for Moshe style, five cheese fondue, served in a clay pot. Perfect for a rainy day. Green schug sauce buffs, looking for their fix of the Middle Eastern green chilli parsley cardamom heat. Baby potatoes sparkled with lemon parsley sauce, spiked with jalapeño and topped with parmesan cheese are a must try. Perfectly balanced texture and flavour of the hummus too. Don’t miss the puff pastry dishes.
Ever had Eggs Chattermee? Unique pairing with lentil onion pulao and crisp plantain chips. Equally delightful. Is the Romha almond bell pepper dish. Ask for the creamy, dreamy perfect textured NY cheesecake.
