Unwind, Mundhwa, Pune: Decor
Located in Mundhwa near Raga Lawns, Unwind is spread over a sprawling area of 14,000 sq ft. It offers three separate seating areas. There is an open-air al fresco space, a cosy Balinese-themed bistro, and a nightclub area with a dance floor. On a breezy Tuesday, we visited Unwind and picked the al fresco section. On the stage, there was a performer impressively singing retro Bollywood songs live. The seating here is a mix of patio furniture, wooden chairs and comfortable sofas. The Bali theme runs throughout with carved wooden pillars and wooden ceilings. While the sprawling space is impressive, the decor can seem slightly dated. Definitely needs some sprucing up.
Food:
As expected, the bar menu is vast and there are a lot of options to choose from. We picked the ultimate long island ice tea from their signature breeds of LIIT’s along with the cranberry lychee margarita. Both our cocktails were great. The food menu is multi-cuisine and has Indian, Asian and Continental options. Like the bar menu, there are a lot of options to pick from and will take multiple visits to sample the whole menu. This time we stuck to our server’s suggestions of signature dishes. We started with the light, delicious and melt-in-your-mouth Makhmali Paneer and followed it with Kumbh Ka Mela. The mushroom dish was a fusion of tandoori and Thai spices. Both these vegetarian dishes were delicious. Among the non-vegetarian starters, we tried the Persian Kebabs which were very tasty. All the desi-grilled dishes have a videsi twist. Next, we tried the Barbados ke Jhinge. A spicy dish which had tiger prawns cooked with Caribbean Malibu rum, jerk spice and saffron. All the starters were impressive and paired beautifully with our cocktails. Along with the starters, we also tried their classic Pizza Ala Nepolitana. The thin-crust pizza had fresh vegetables, olives and capers topped with cheese and doused with olive oil. For the main course, we decided to try the Harissa cottage cheese. Cottage cheese fillets slow grilled with harissa spices served with a fragrant saffron dill sauce. From the Indian mains, we picked the Methi garlic chicken. The chicken was succulent and cooked perfectly, but the dish was too bland and lacked the punch. The accompanying Magadh Ka Naan and Jodhpuri paratha were excellent. The dessert menu is limited, but both the desserts we tried were great. The American chocolate mud pie was indulgent and delicious. The Malai kulfi was creamy and extremely cooling on the stomach.
Plus & Minus:
The food menu with a mix of Indian, Asian and Continental dishes is impressive. The munchies and the appetizers were particularly very good. Some dishes in the main course falter and it generally happens with an all encompassing, elaborate and long menu. The service was prompt and the staff was attentive and courteous. The decor seems dated and some sprucing up is definitely required to improve the ambience.
